Title: Report from the front lines Post by: rip|Vitalix on October 06, 2006, 03:23:52 PM I just spent a few hours playing 2142. The demo is a single level, similar to Oman but without any water. There's a variety of units -- tanks, hovertanks, walkers, little cars, copters, stationary guns ... things like that.
The game appears evolutionary, not revolutionary. At the core it's more of the same. There are actually less classes, not more, to play. The medic and assault guy appear to be combined. I didn't see any titan ship either on the level that I was playing ... so the demo does not really match the intro you will watch. There's some lack of originality too. Guess what the chopper gunner has ... a gun and yes a TV missile! C'mon, it's 2142. EA was just lazy and slapped on the BF2 chopper characteristics to this one. The sniper character (aka recon) appears much easier to use. I was killing people with ease compared to bf2. The most annoying part of the game is that between every round or two you are forced to watch a twenty second ad for "all new levels!" and "you can do this!" and "yay!". This is extremely annoying. So your flow in the game is cut off every other round. (Yes, you cannot skip it with a mouse click) All in all, the game is fair to good. It's just BF2 dressed up a bit. The botttom line is that there's really nothing new. You get almost the same value as playing POE. If it was priced at $9.99, sure. $40-$50? I have my doubts, Vitalix Title: Report from the front lines Post by: rip|Jackal on October 06, 2006, 03:42:38 PM EA did NOT make a new engine for this game. It is BF2 with new maps, some new features, new weapons, etc. But the gameplay is still the same and so are the bugs. Bullet spray is the same, you can empty a mag into someone and they drop and one shot kill you.
BF2 with some fluff, that is all. [smilie=thumbdown.gif] Title: Report from the front lines Post by: rip|forkev on October 06, 2006, 05:09:05 PM the map has water
I'm not impressed Hhmmmm.....buy a new car or slap on a new coat of paint i.e. keep the old BF2 engine with bugs, etc or get a entirely new game (Quake Wars) Title: Report from the front lines Post by: rip|Vitalix on October 20, 2006, 06:35:33 AM Well, after playing 2142 for a while for the first time, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The maps appear more infantry and vehicle based. There's lots of opportunity to snoop around to get into close combat. Also, bunny hopping seems less effective due to the accuracy of the weapons.
The only thing that still bothers me are the bulletin boards all over every level. These boards are blank for you, but soon they will be covered with Pepsi!, Gateway! and who else know what crapola. In any event, I look foward to our next clan scrimm. |
