Title: Round 5 review Post by: rip|buzinator on June 28, 2007, 12:51:25 PM Atoms: 1 point now seperates the top 3 in a hotly contested championship battle.
Clios: Feelsnerves irrepressible, in a race of lead changes and crazy strats. Race 1 - Apparently quite refreshed from the two week rest, Buz lept to the top of the time sheets, his pole time a full second clear of his rivals. The race start saw an untidy squeeze of the pack into turn 1 with many places gained and lost. An incident involving cars 2 & 7 was investigated by the stewards of the race, but no penalties were given and the event was labelled a 'racing incident'. The roughness of the dirt track was hard on tires and even with 3 stops, a number of cars still found themselves crawling due to blown tires ... setting the scene for a memorable moment as Buz sacrificed his 10sec gap to 2nd place in order to push his stricken TeamRIP comrade, Kav, through the 3rd sector and into the pits for fresh rubber. New kid on the block T3R_King managed a podium in his first race, proclaiming afterwards, "I have equalled Lewis Hamilton, it's safe to assume that will be a career long trend". Race 2 - The switch to Clios came at the same time as the switch to dirt, quite a change of scene for the sedan series. The combination seemed to work, producing Lebowski's first ever pole in a Clio and a race with no less than 6 lead changes between 4 drivers! TeamRIP make their 2nd pitstops a lap earlier than scheduled, hoping to gain some ground on a runaway Jack Feelsnerves. The ploy worked and several laps passed with Buz coming out of turn 1 in the lead and Jack reclaiming the position in the final corner. Eventually Buz's tires gave out and Jackal was able to get past for a couple of extra points. Back in the pack, T3R got radical. Opting to run a 1 stop race Mitsu & Norm (and King?) ran some laps with blown tires. Though slowing their times it was enough to finish ahead of Kav who went with a conventional 2 stop strategy. |
