Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|MightyMax on February 29, 2008, 08:39:20 AM Out this summer....
They did a good job on the promotional movie http://www.grid-game.com/ or http://www.codemasters.com/emails/grid/270208/racedrivergrid_online_270208_usa.html Looks to be fun, however.... Ya, must be some high system requirements. Unless you have a 360, PS3, or a DS??? ( a DS port has to be interesting ) Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|buzinator on February 29, 2008, 08:54:54 AM Lol ... hmm ... there is a lot of concern in the community that this will turn the Race Driver series into a Need For Speed clone. Which would be sad.
I'll have to check out the vid...but i know the screenshots that came out late last year were indeed all street racing stuff. And yes, I believe it's built on the DiRT engine and so has high system requirements. Assuming it's a good game it could be what pushes me into the PCI-Ex sphere at long last. Although if it sux I'll prob just continue on with rFactor & Race07. Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|Jackal on March 25, 2008, 06:32:27 PM they did a quick talk about it on xplay tonight.
supposed to be in between sim and race game, but looks like all the other games like dirt. 12 player mulitplayer online support new crash physics it just looks like all the other race games they came out with and still seems to have that sim look that i didn't care for in the other games. graphics look too intense for agp. http://www.g4tv.com/xplay/previews/20907/Hands_On_Grid.html Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|buzinator on March 26, 2008, 06:51:07 AM I'll have to check out the vid later. intersting to see someone complaining Toca4 is too much of a sim ... the sim crowd are all complaining it's too arcade.
Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|buzinator on March 26, 2008, 08:28:18 AM OK ... watched it ... here's my impression ... It's v4 of Toca ... the same game under the hood, i really didn't see anyhting that got changed. It seems almost the same, striking that balance between sim & arcade.
High end graphics will be a problem for us AGP folks, we're screwed...time to move into the 21st century i guess. Has a few less diverse locations of tracks, but includes new types (demo derby, street racing) without necessarily removing the old (I saw Touring Cars, GT, Open Wheel...). I think the game may actually be pretty good, despite initial my misgivings about street racing. Still only 12 player online mode ... guess they haven't improved their netcode. :( Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on March 26, 2008, 08:41:04 AM that looks wicked!!!!
i bet buz and jackal dont play just because they would have to get a new computer      Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|buzinator on March 26, 2008, 08:46:09 AM will have to make a fund for it and save up.
DiRT refused to even install on my current machine  Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|Jackal on March 26, 2008, 09:21:26 AM ya the games look cool and all but codemasters can't even code correctly.
Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|buzinator on March 26, 2008, 11:08:40 AM I think they probably can ... they just don't, I think their marketing dept just has too much influence and the finer details don't get high priority.
Can you imagine being a programmer fighting for the president's attention versus the designers? Lag fixes versus sexy gfx that will move units...you know how that will go down. anyway, I have yet to encounter a racing game that's got such a perfect balance/formula, it's so easy to get into, yet rewards good driving. Plus the in-built diversity ... most other games are dependant upon modding communities and convoluted in comparison. Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|Jackal on March 26, 2008, 01:11:02 PM warez it first
Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|buzinator on March 26, 2008, 02:11:37 PM I expect there'll be a demo.

Graphics Card: GeForce 6800 / Radeon X1300 or above DirectX Compatible Sound Card Dual Layer Compatible DVD-ROM Drive 12.5 GB Hard Drive Space THANKS BUZ. oh wait, how does a Pentium M 2.0GHz fair to the Pentium 4 3.0GHz??? Maybe I'm lagging processor wise. Got the 6800 vid though. Title: GRID .... I bet $5 it wont run on your machine fork http://www.gamershell.com/download_19282.shtml Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|buzinator on May 08, 2008, 09:16:47 AM Definitely slower cpu there ... it might install though. Give it a shot and see what happens.
Will run the game slow once installed though, I'm sure. Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|buzinator on May 09, 2008, 07:24:37 PM GRID Demo is OUT
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/52617 Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|Jackal on May 11, 2008, 04:32:06 PM downloaded and installed. can't run higher that 1024x768. 3 game modes in demo. bmw race, drifting, muscle car race. the bmw and drifting is fun and cool, but the muscle car racing is missing something. something doesn't feel right.
i do think when you hit something the physics are almost great. if you hit the rear of your car it will spin you around. understeer and oversteer are really improved. this is more of a game that a full blown sim. Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on May 11, 2008, 07:19:54 PM downloading now

but seriously, read the forums, a lot of people are saying the controls are weird or need some kind of tweaking. it's just a demo anyway. Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|Jackal on May 13, 2008, 07:29:39 AM the only thing i can say is wait until we can find it on newsgroups. we'll give it a try and see what the majority says. buz and i will need to get new pcs to run this at really good settings.

By the way, is this a DX10 game? Won't we need Vista? I know the demo runs on our crap now, but we all may need to go Vista??? Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on May 15, 2008, 08:58:39 AM no i have not heard anything about this being a vista only game....its way to soon to release a vista only game. vista's market share is small compared to xp.
Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|Jackal on May 15, 2008, 09:40:13 AM vii) Why can’t I choose a higher screen resolution?
Higher resolutions require large amounts off video RAM. If GRID detects that your primary graphics card has less than 512MB of RAM, higher resolutions will be made unavailable to avoid poor performance and potential graphical issues. viii) Is ATI’s Crossfire or NVIDIA’s SLI supported? Unfortunately, due to the working of GRID’s engine, systems which link two or more graphics cards (i.e. Crossfire or SLI) are not implicitly supported. This means you may not see a performance boost from having the second card, and you may even have trouble running the game. If GRID is failing to start properly and your system is SLI or Crossfire enabled, try disabling the technology in either NVIDIA’s or ATI’s control panel in Windows and see if this helps. What a joke!!! Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|buzinator on May 15, 2008, 09:53:56 AM yeah, but if you have an 8800GT you don't need no stinking SLI.
Yesterday one of the guys in my dept brought his PC in so I could look at the game ... he was playing it at 1920 x 1200 with 8xAA with the graphics options maxed out and it was totally smooth, didn't miss a beat. This ain't Crysis. Title: GRID .... Post by: rip|Jackal on May 15, 2008, 10:16:14 AM buz, post on the grid forums if one of those new dual GPU cards will work with the game.
