Dude has GRID now too ... so we're getting some reasonable numbers ... Chitty, Toadly, Picklehead & Indent, if you're reading this feel free to join in.

Whoopass-Racing Championships come in two flavors, GP and TC. GP is more formal, euro-style, TC is more loose, kinda crazy no rules style.

My idea for GP is to do an imitation GRID World thing, but moving up classes as we go. 2 races each in GT2, GT1, LMP2, LMP1.

My idea for TC is to do alternating rounds of Demolition Derby, Drift Race, Destruction Derby, Drift Freestyle. (not necessarily in that order). To clarify, Deomlition derby is when you race but with ramming ... destruction derby is when you don't even race you just smash each other up and the last man standing is the winner (points would still be awarded in the order you total your car).

what does everyone think?

ok, well, how about F1000, F3, GT1, LMP1 as a 'career path' for the GP series?

I think we should try the drifting cuz we all know we suck at it, this would force us to develop a little bit.

it can be a race.

the freestyle is funny, there's no course to follow, everyone just goes wherever they want trying to drift past those poles to rack up point within a time limit. so it's just cars all over the place hoping to not hit each other. funny shit imo.

Another thing occurred to me ... regarding Destruction (or Demolition) Derbies ... we can use ANY class we want, $20Million LMP1 Audi's for example. Take expensive stuff and smash it all up ... at the bottom of Eau Rouge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eau_Rouge_corner#Eau_Rouge) or something. lol.

I just picked the drift ones from a list, i'll have to check out what kind of races they are, if they're solo time trials etc.

what do people think of the idea of making all the drifting full-contact? Obviously Dude will kill us all at straight-up drifting, so maybe we make it interesting?

As long as we all know the rules I don't see a problem with any style of racing :)

Digressing slightly, looks like qualifying is not a feature of the 1.2 patch they're working on. So I figure we'll just control the order in which we ready-up, will have to figure out a method for that, like reverse last race results or something.

I'd love to see touring cars added to the line up - I'm all about my sweet little BMW 320si

Maybe we could use touring cars in place of GT?

I'll race whatever to be honest - but I do love the dynamics of touring cars.  I ran some touring car races online today - it seems that everyone is running the Chevy Lacetti over the BMW 320si.  I guess the Lacetti is better over all?

Only thing between them to me is that the chevy is front wheel drive, perhaps folks are just more comfortable like that. I'm not personally, i like the BMW too.

I prefer rear wheel, especially with a vehicle that's not over-torque'y like the BMW.  It's another story for me if you put me in some ridiculious muscle car.

We do need to discuss scheduling a bit ... in the past leagues have been run on Wednesday nights at 8pm eastern. 1 GP race and 1 TC race.

This still works for me but I'm open to suggestions.

What days of the week and times of the day will work for you guys? (everyone)

nah, i'll give him a run for his money. full contact sounds nice. but we should also do just straight up drifting. so what about we do two races for each track. demo drift and regular drift? suggestion

i have class at 9pm eastern till 1am. if we could race a little earlier that might be cool. unless i waited till the last minute to do my homework then theres no way. thursday and friday i'm free all day. well so far. need a job. but thats where i'm at right now.

I'm in and I'm open most any weekday night after 9 Est.

For what it matters, my race preference for the GP would be anything from:

F1000
F3
GT
Touring
LMP1

I'm indifferent as to the TC racing.

I work Mon-Fri 8-5pm...unfortunately that's PST, so 8pm EST race times just won't work for me. I think the earliest I could race (EST) is 9pm and even that would be pushing it.

Buz...you mentioned Fridays, that would be great. I get off work early on Fridays so could race just about any time.

Sounds like I might be odd guy out on the timezone thing...so I'll just try to be there for whatever time works out for majority.

Tough for me to say Buz.  My schedule changes on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis.  We're so short paramedics, I'm constantly being called in for mandatory overtime.  I'll have to play it by ear I'm afraid.

That sounds pretty rough alright Indent ... well, theoretically, is Friday any worse than any other day?

In the past was have awarded 'away points' for guys who just couldn't make it, half the points they would have gotten had they been there and come last (rounded up to the nearest integer) ... it would keep you alive at least. heck some of the most intense racing i've ever experienced as been the struggle to to be not-last.

@ Toadly ... generally, yes in TC you are free to be 'that guy' ... although considering W33dy's view regarding drifting, there may be exceptions made ... perhaps drift battle we try to do clean, but freestyle is full contact?

Ahh...I was just mouthing off anyway. I don't think I've ever made intentional contact with another racer. Not even in demo derby. It will be fun to do last man standing :)

Typically speaking, Friday nights are busy for me - there are always people calling in sick for their Friday night shifts.  I think I remember someone suggesting Thursday.  Again, hit or miss for me I'm afraid, but possibly better than Friday.

Has a start date been settled on?

Just to get the competitive juices flowing a little bit I've posted my practice times below:


15 lap race:
23:48.40
(ave lap in the 1:33's, which I have improved since)

Fastest lap:
1:31.32

On which track? I just ran 15 laps on Nurburgring Sprint and my fastest lap was 1:07.16. I was running in Race Day mode...so there's a little traffic at first but it doesn't take long to pull away...

I just did another 15 laps and hit 1:06.89. I still can't get the first corner right on this track. Brake? Drift? Feather the pedal? Hell if I know. That wide hairpin gets me a lot too....I hate turning into that corner before I can really see it  8O

I know what you mean about both corners ... especially the 2nd one you mentioned... have to use The Force on that one...picture it before you even arrive at it so you're ready to take that wider-than-you-instinctively-want-to line.

turn one for me, i think, works best when i slow down more than my instincts tell me and turn after i'm off the brakes and the suspension is relatively neutral. i have to fight the urge to turn too tight, i avoid the inside kerbing as it bounces the car around...plan on a wide exit so you can get back on the throttle as early as possible because it's slightly uphill coming out and you'll get left behind if you're braking and subsequently accelerating too late.

my 2c.  sorry i don't have a lap time to post as yet.

I'm running high 6's and low 7's.  I hit 1:06.85.

Ok, on the correct track:

15 lap practice race: 16:51.77 (with one crash giving me a 1:13 lap)
Fastest lap: 1:05.67

Works for me...what time? Fridays are usually pretty flexible for me...usually get done around noon PST.

I think someone said 9pm eastern works best for them ...

At this point, i think we'll be finishing kinda late for some folks so my inclination is to do GP and TC separately, on alternating weeks, so it's just one event per friday.

That time should work for me, as long as I don't get a call at the end of my shift.
