LOL yeah the cars need to be launched into the air after hitting a mild curb more often!  :P

I read on the codemasters forums a comment that the physx makes the waving flags around the track more fluid/natural. I'm not sure it even does that, the game just doesn't support physx at all as far as i can tell. it certainly isn't on nvidia's list of physx games.

pfft, lol, whatever.

OT: if rFactor is for n00bs, come beat me in then ;)

ok, I see now that I apparently need the v177 drivers, rather than a 0.03 increment within the 175 drivers.

will be trying this beta driver tonight...

meh ... the 177 beta drivers gave a slight increase, not more than 5fps on average.

I went into the GRID's options and turned shadow quality down to low and that nearly DOUBLED my frame rate.

Who needs shadows? I'll have to try turnin some stuff down. I frap'd the last session. There was a noticable difference but not imparing. I'll share it pretty soon. Chitty pulling me out of second. What a joke. Wait til' you see it

It is too bad that we can't get recordings of the race.  If only someone wanted to join and just spectate and record. :(

that'd sure be a nice thing to have.

heh ... rfactor, GTR & RACE all can save online replays for playback later ... if only grid had that ability.

oh you and your non-offical WAR racing game propaganda...

Slightly related question, depending on how good it is, is there any thought that the next Codemasters F1 game would be a WAR candidate, or is that too genre specific?

I'll be getting it, 100% certain, even though I pretty much am done with codies...I am an F1 nut.

We'll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it.

It's ridiculous that you can't save replays in Grid. My fraps turned out pretty nice...although it's only going to be from my perspective. They are huge too...which is a bit of a pain in the ass to encode them to something reasonable. On that note, does anyone know of a quick and easy freeware app to split up avi files? I used to have something for deleting commercials from TV shows...but can't for the life of me remember what it was.

Regarding your overtake though, I was just givin shit. I think we fought it out for a good 3 laps before the pressure broke me. My backend definitly broke loose on your final overtake...causing you to push me into a full 360.

Good stuff.

Never used it but i recall there's some app out there call VirtualDub that might work for you.

Dumb Q ... why not just use windows movie maker for simple youtube-bound stuff?

Guess I'll experiment with fraps'ing a race. running at 1920x1200 even half-res is going to cause trouble i suspect, but we'll see.

I would be interested in seeing the video from your perspective.  I was on the inside next to you and turned in as sharp as I could, so I figured the governing body would clear me.  I thought that would be the place where it would be safest place for a pass since that was pretty much the widest section of the track (should someone have to use the green run off area).

I'm going to look into what xfire can do since they have that video capture functionality built in.  If I can't get that to work in a satisfactory manner by the race I'll get Fraps set up and running as well.

As Buz said, virtual dub works very well for carving up avi video.

...i'm really disappointed with what youtube did to my xvid on my other post. It really looks like shit. Maybe they handle wmv files a little better.

Wouldn't bet on it improving too much.

I've always noticed www.metacafe.com seems to have much higher quality...no clue if it's free like youtube ... might check it out right now i guess.

I'll post it tonight when I get home from work. I'd like to cut up our battle. It's funny to see how back and forth we were...I didn't give you many "clean" opportunities to pass, only because I was having trouble keeping my car under control.

I never thought of using xfire...let us know how that turns out :)
