Title: Yo ChITty - rFactor screenshots Post by: rip|buzinator on August 18, 2008, 08:39:07 PM These aren't full resolution but i kept them a bit big so you can see decently.
rFactor is basically just a framework that's meant to be modded by the community. You can get a basic download of the game without really any tracks or cars in it except perhaps for a few fictional ones to get you started. These shots are of an F1-2007 mod I've been messing with lately...but there are many other cars and tracks to grab. Everything from late-models on dirt ovals through F1 at classic tracks like the original dual-circuit Monza (with the banking). Being a mod, does it "feel" correct? Can you do a whole season or is a race by race thing? How's the AI? Are there different settings? Does it require heavy tweaking of the car or can you pretty much load up and race against the default AI? Is the multiplayer active with that mod? PS I really like the xfire screenshot functionality, you should look into that more since you take so many for WAR. I think you have to enable xfire to do it from the options menu, but scroll lock + s should work if you do that. Plus you can upload them to the xfire website through the interface. Title: Yo ChITty - rFactor screenshots (wide pics) Post by: rip|buzinator on August 20, 2008, 09:59:18 AM Fraps works good for me personally. I often seem to have issues with xfire keys not seeming to work or chat windows not popping up. I frequently close out of a game and find a couple messages from you that are an hour or more old. which is pretty frustrating. idk wtf is up with that.
also with Fraps i don't need to do key combinations, i just hit F10 and the screenshot is taken. the fps display blinks white too so i know instantly that it worked. I'm an xfire n00b, i'll mess around with it some more i guess. Quote Being a mod, does it "feel" correct? Probably a subjective thing, but yes, to me, it feels correct. Quote Can you do a whole season or is a race by race thing? You can download the tracks and then there's a tool from the community that you can build a season with. Quote How's the AI? Are there different settings? Pretty good IMO. They will bump back if bumped and take defensive lines to a degree, and race door to door through multiple corners on occasion. They are variable in number and aggression/speed. AI can be added to online games. Also the Safety/Pace car actually WORKS! It is a sight to behold i can tell you. :) Quote Does it require heavy tweaking of the car or can you pretty much load up and race against the default AI? You can definitely go out with default settings and have yourself a race. But of course it's a good idea to do at least some minor tweaking like: - fuel load/pit strat - tire pressures/camber Then as you get used to it, and develop a method you can move on to: - Wing Levels - Gearing - Brake bias (if you wish, you can adjust this corner-to-corner like in real life!) Quote Is the multiplayer active with that mod? fairly, yeah, you can find servers. Probably the single most active mod is the Megane Trophy. Online in rFactor (or any sim) is a totally different environment to the Toca/GRID world though. Leave your arcade expectations at the door...this calls for slowing things down mentally and really thinking about what you're doing. MANY servers are private. Most servers also are running 3rd party cars and tracks that you will have to figure out where to get and what version is needed etc. Teams/Clans are extremely important in the sim world. tracking down a group's website is going to be the best way to determine what specifically you need to install. OK, now that I've said the scary stuff I have to finish off with - once you are setup and it's clicked in your head, it can be very rewarding, IMO. If you want I'll put the specific mods i have up for download from this website, so you can get setup the same way and we can try some stuff out. Title: Yo ChITty - rFactor screenshots (wide pics) Post by: rip|buzinator on August 21, 2008, 04:18:49 PM rFactor (or GTR / RACE for that matter) have a full blown logging system too, which is fricking sweet cuz with the proper tools you can present race stats like this ...
http://www.whoopass-racing.com/rf_results_test1/ I especially love the Positions graph and the lap by lap commentary. It's cool to see laps led and which lap you did your fastest time etc too.
