Title: Retired ... rFactor Top Gear Power Laps
Post by: rip|buzinator on January 02, 2009, 12:39:36 PM
(http://www.teamrip.net/files/top_gear_board.jpg)

Q. What do I need to post a time on the Top Gear Board?

A. From the TeamRIP download (http://www.teamrip.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=0) section (link at bottom/left for clan members):

 1. rFactor Lite (http://www.teamrip.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item35) (60min Demo is enough for practice and a few serious attempts).
 2. Top Gear Test Track (http://www.teamrip.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item39) (install v1.000 and then v1.100 ... track cams optional).
 3. Buz's Top Gear Skin (http://www.teamrip.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item44)

Additional suggestions, not required, but good to have...

 1. Buz's rfactor Lite Update 1
 2. Dover track
 3. Gateway track
 4. Norisring track

Over time I'm hand-picking some additional tracks and cars to add in ... keeping it simple so we don't get crazy and overwhelm ourselves with too much stuff at once.

I plan to have fixed setups and all driving aids enabled when I run a server, so don't feel like you have to drive it in full-on-sim mode and do setups etc. It's more about learning the tracks ... the racing lines, braking points, best overtaking places etc.

Quote
The start-finish line is situated right outside the TG studio, meaning your getaway is in full view of the cameras… and Jeremy. Load up the revs and drop the clutch in a puff of tyre smoke and you'll look like a hero: stall it and you'll look like a tit.

Either way, you'd better get the power down quickly before you hit the Crooner Curves, a tricky, fast left-hander with two apexes and a devilish camber.

Chicago is up next: round the right-hand side of the tyre wall and into a steady-state right-hander. This corner tests just how well-balanced a car is as it loads up on the outside tyres, but it has foxed the odd celebrity - most memorably Billie Piper, who completely lost her way. Bless.

Watch out for the Follow Through - so called because you just might if you take it flat out...'

Foot down and up to the end of the runway, where the Hammerhead lurks. A tricky left-right that weeds out the understeerers, it's a scary name and an even scarier corner. Overcook the entry and there's a couple of acres of thick Surrey bracken to negotiate your way out of. Not good for the lap time, that.

Out of the Hammerhead - where the Koeniggsegg CCXR got tyre-hungry before we fitted it with a new wing - and into the Follow Through. So called because you just might if you take it flat out, it's the fastest corner on the circuit. Tyre wall on the right, verge on the left, and just enough room to squeeze through slightly sideways.

Now you're back on the runway, hitting fourth if you've got the exit from the Follow Through right. Down to Bacharach - a soothing name, but a tricky, high-speed left-hander. Designed to test brake balance, it rewards those late on the anchors. Not too late, mind, or you'll be on the verge.

Bacharach successfully negotiated, there's just one corner left: Gambon. This was originally called Carpenters Corner - whether after the woodcutting occupation or the 1970s band has become lost in time - but was hastily renamed after Sir Michael drove it on two wheels in a jacket and tie. Genuine class.

Flat out and it's back across the start-finish line. The lap time? Hopefully somewhere north of Richard Whiteley's heroic 2:06 in the original Reasonably Priced Car, but if you're closing in on the Renault F1 car's sub-one minute time, things are going well.

And just remember: however well you reckon you're doing, it'll still be slower than the Stig. Sorry.

OK Folks ... I ran a demonstration lap to show the course layout ... I recommend studying it so you don't look too n00bish in front of The Stig when he visits next week(!!)

Booyah - we got some official, witnessed, replayable times!

PROPS to SMITE for kicking ass with a GamePad! With a wheel he'd destroy me I'm sure.
Either way, I'm sure there's more speed to be had for both of us.

I had a blast with rFactor Lite. Its seems that after you play it 60 minutes the time is up now.

So looks like im hooked and buying it. If there are any other members out there racing I would like to see it. Come on lets make a true racing division and have some fun with it..

Title: THE STIG was here!
Post by: rip|buzinator on January 19, 2009, 10:00:17 AM
Some say ... he uses NyQuil to stay alert in endurance races, and that he can be manipulated remotely by Stephen Hawking.

All we know is ... The Stig just set the fastest ever time on our Top Gear test track!!!

In the next day or so I'll be post a vid of the golden lap and the rfactor vcr file (like a demo file in a FPS game) so anyone can replay it and watch from different angles etc.

Just tryed it out for the first time. That Kodi thing is horrible to drive. Im used to the F1 cars on MMG-2007 haha. Was quite a drastic change in speed. Wasnt used to it at all. Achieved a 1:32.280 :)

Is your 'Stig' time an AI time or a human time?

I believe Alex619's time is perfectly possible, as I've just recently tried it out and done a 1.31.9xx from a standing start =]

Not an AI time, being The Stig, let's phrase it as being a 'humanoid' time :)
Watched it myself as he did it...and he insists there is more speed out there...so I well believe both of your times.

Gotta get your butts on my server to get official though ;)

OMG I didn't even see the times at the top LOL!  Sweeeeeet.  If I would have known, I would have been happy with all those 1:29s.  Who knows I might have f'd the settings up.  I tried switching it to manual (since the car in the show is manual) but that switched me into the highest difficulty and the f'in car was torque steering coming out of every single corner, so I switched it back to automatic and when I did that I noticed that the difficulty was on veteran for all of those manual runs.  I switched it back to intermediate which is what I believe is default correct?

The difficulty settings are anything-you-want, whatever is comfortable/fun feeling.

The server will be setup thus...

- Car = Kodi ZR A-Type (not M or Z type).
- NO Upgrades.
- Default Setup (including Fuel).
- Time of Day ... 2pm.
- 1x time rate.
- 1x fuel rate.
- 1x tire rate.

Official attempts are to be from a Standing start, directly from the pit lane.

Simple tire-warming techniques (swerving, braking) in the pitlane are currently permitted, but under review.

(I think we should discuss this ... after thinking about it my personal opinion is that we should just drive straight up to the start/finish line, no weaving/braking. The competition is supposed to be on the timed lap, not in the pitlane.)
