Title: Evo - testing agenda...
Post by: rip|buzinator on April 30, 2009, 02:56:16 PM
Want to remember to test:

Damage Levels - crash test @ various damage %'s ... find what's suitable for season. 75% Seems good.

Race Results Publisher - errors with Dedi Server too? There's definitely a formatting issue with the first two laps that messes up a fair amount of stuff. Chitty has been able to produce corrected logs that produce correct results in Autosim Analyzer. I've heard back from other league admins that there are ways around it, but they had to make edits to their championship tracking system (GPCOS).

Ballast - Effect on lap times @ Indy Oval, slows us down to AI speeds? Effect at Ovals TBD, effect on road course we have a handle on.

Test customizing starting order via Dedicated Server. -  Not Supported

We also have to check if you can force driver aid settings from the dedicated server.

I don't think you can force them to be on, but you can force them to be off ... what are you thinking of in particular?

I just want to make sure that I'm racing with the same settings you are.  Monaco the other night makes me wonder if I was.

I think the realism settings should be:
ABs - Low
Traction control - Low
Stability control - On

I have no prob with those for the server ... since one is still free to turn off whatever one wants :)

Some things we learned:

X3 tire wear is fine

*Some AI drivers didn't do a pitstop*

*Some AI drivers didn't do a pitstop*

Really? That would explain why I didn't feel like I was making any ground.

With a full length race they'll have to change tires at some point though.

75% damage seems not bad to me btw ... yes a head-on with the wall at speed ripped both front wheels off, but we should be able to survive interaction with the AI ... which I think was a concern of Kal's.

How did you guys feel about the AI's pace?

I felt like I was definitely faster but still had trouble overtaking, some of them were absolutely stubborn. But there were still chances to pass, certain corners where you could expect them to brake early if they didn't feel threatened ... and if we do start running away form them it could even out through pit stops..?

I had no issues with 75% damage.  Some of my AI overtakes were not exactly clean, or anywhere near clean, but I managed to keep my front wing.  I know Kal lost his front wing, but it appeared that was from an altercation with a tire wall.

As far as AI skill, I went from 20th to 3 or 4 in the opening lap, so I didn't have too many problems with them.  Once the field spread out I believe they were lapping similar to us though.

I retract my X3 tire wear comment.  I think it should be set to X2, especially considering that we don't know the AI is actually going to pit.  I think Kal mentioned that if it's at X3, we would have had to pit 3 times if that race was full distance.  IMO at X3 we only had 8 laps with good/decent tires and with full distance on that track around 27 laps or so, we would definitely be pitting more than the AI.

X2 sounds fair to me.

I guess my problem is with the AI seeming to take certain lines regardless of whether there is a car in their way. And watching the majority of the field pit on the last lap, or even pitting to finish, makes me hesitant to using X3 tires. The AI is going to run the same line, more or less, through the race until they hit 50% or lower on tires, and by then we're severely noticing tire wear and effects on turning. It's just a little jarring to take the same line into a corner, at the same speed on two consecutive laps and find yourself spinning on the latter because of tire wear.

But all around, seemed decent enough. Kinda surprised I finished 14th after the 45s pit for suspension and gas.

I think I might be making progress as far as publishing race results. I'm messing with a new system that's more actively supported ... http://racing.teamrip.net

I created accounts for kal & Chitty in the system, it's possible you have unexpected activation emails from this system, you can ignore them.

If you go to the left column
- Select a Sim of Race07
- Select a season of 'Fun Runs'
- info about our Oschersleben race should appear down below
- Click the 'more' link...

So far it only counts drivers with accounts in the system, ie, the 3 of us. But I can manually create placeholder accounts for the AI so the entire field shows up and then we'll truly be able to tell if the positions graph is accurate.

It's looking pretty sweet!

So that old racing results system is dead then?  That really sucks as I was planning on using that to populate the race order displays and stuff in the video.

Also the website race information doesn't look as detailed either.  :(

http://racing.teamrip.net/utils/push_file.php?dataarray[IDrace]=1&dataarray[sessionid]=6 (http://racing.teamrip.net/utils/push_file.php?dataarray)

Hey, I exported the race information from the link above provided on the new website.  Is that the same file format that you run through the other program?  If so, I think I've just fixed the issue we were having with the 0 lap counting.  I just threw together an Excel spreadsheet to go through and increase the lap data by 1 for each racer.  I think that will provide accurate results in the original program.  Could you test it when you have a moment?

Strange... Buz your lap data seems to be screwed up.  In the original file you don't have a lap 0 like every other race did, so obviously when I run it through to fix, your data now starts on lap 2.  I know you got lapped, but you got it back so you should have been counted as having completed 15 laps.  I wonder iif the new race results program is handling that correctly.

Wow, I now have to suspect it's because I got a warning for cutting the track on Lap1, Turn 1 ... I mounted the kerbing and took out a bollard (it's pretty clear in the replay).

The graph seems screwed up in SLS too, it shows me as leading a couple laps, which NEVER happened. And of course the finishing places are a bit off.

cheaters never prosper!

I think we should turn off flags.

We seem to be having a lot of issues with them.  I'd hate to have a 40 min race ruined for one of us by a nitpicky flag.  One blatant example happened to Kal as he was flagged for cutting while spinning out across a corner.  Obviously the game can't tell the difference, but given he had already lost positions it completely ruined our run on the nurburgring.

Plus it's not like anyone is going to get away with anything since I'm going to be combing over the footage for the videos.  That is... except for me MUHAHAHAHAHAHA.  All we would have to do is come up with some sort of penalty to apply if something is noticed in the video, perhaps 1 point per incident or something?

Well, we will all have access to replays, so let's see how much you get away with shall we?

I forget what flag options there are in total, but yeah, we should definitely reduce the severity of them.

Want to remember to test:

Ballast - Effect on lap times @ Indy Oval, slows us down to AI speeds? Outstanding

I propose that Ballast adjustments are used for every race based on race results.

I think that's reasonable...will incorporate that angle to the ballast testing.

This is from the Race07 Manual ... what do you think?

So, by default, the car has 20 kilos by default or do we have to set the default?

I'm a little confused about the last part.  So say I'm carrying 40 kilos, and I finish 4th, I lose weight?  How much weight do I lose?

I think that'll work nicely.  I have a question about Indy (and pueblo?) though.  I think that for Indy, the accumulated weights are removed and we just use a standard ballast for us to even out the field against the AI, since that track is so top speed dependent.

I should have mentioned, this manual excerpt is in reference to a single-player WTCC season...

If you're carrying 40KG and finish 4th, next race you will carry 50KG.

And so it goes until you either start finishing 9th or worse and weight is removed 5KG at a time ... or if you keep doing well, you will eventually hit the limit (250KG i think).

I agree about Indy, all bets are off, we should put on our best setups and see how much weight we need to equalize with the AI.

We'll have to see about Puebla, since that's a stock track, the AI might actually be good to go on that one.

Just tested on dedicated server ... maximum additional weight is 150KG.
