Title: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on June 13, 2009, 05:33:10 PM here are some I have been looking at.

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-6272 (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-6272) It's a PVA LCD Panel, not a shit-assed TN (significantly better color). Watch Slickdeals.net like a hawk for Dell deals, a couple weeks ago these were going for $100 off. Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|buzinator on June 13, 2009, 07:07:01 PM Samsung = too expensive
BenQ = not available. Dell = available, ballpark price with potential for deals. Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on June 13, 2009, 08:04:06 PM What do you think about the Hanns-G?
Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|buzinator on June 13, 2009, 08:23:21 PM Personally, I would rather have a 24" PVA panel than a 28" TN panel.
It's a 6ms response time vs 2ms or 3ms or whatever ... not really detectable to me. However the color quality is an extremely detectable difference. (to me) Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|ChITty on June 13, 2009, 10:25:40 PM agreed TN are crap. You might have some slight input lag with the PVA, but the Dells constantly top out in the reviews I read.
What's sad is that the MVA matrix panels have dried up just because they were too expensive. MVAs have great color, viewing angles, and minimal input lag. Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|buzinator on June 14, 2009, 08:45:00 AM I was concerned about the potential for input lag but took a chance anyway ... i've never detected any.
Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on June 14, 2009, 09:36:24 AM so you dont think more real estate for the race pod would be better?
Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|buzinator on June 14, 2009, 11:00:01 AM of course it would, in absolute terms.
BUT - You're talking about choosing a marginal increase in image area that comes with a significant reduction in image quality. Not worth it to me. If you were to get something like a 37 1080p TV ... then maybe. Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|ChITty on June 14, 2009, 11:38:02 AM What video card do you have? Would you even have enough horsepower to drive a higher resolution at a decent quality?
Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|buzinator on June 14, 2009, 11:55:27 AM Why is someone without funds for MDF looking at monitors anyway?
Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|ChITty on June 14, 2009, 02:16:06 PM MDf?

Would you even have enough horsepower to drive a higher resolution at a decent quality? I have this card http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr96512gtoce.aspx• High-definition gaming support with resolutions up to 2560x1600 Why is someone without funds for MDF looking at monitors anyway? I will have the money for the supplies on Tuesday and will start hopefully on Wednesday. I should have the funds for the monitor once i get paid for the 7 acre survey I am working on. Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on June 14, 2009, 09:08:37 PM Dell has a deal on 19" monitors for $98. What if I run three monitors like I see people doing.
Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|ChITty on June 14, 2009, 10:54:39 PM I have this card http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr96512gtoce.aspx • High-definition gaming support with resolutions up to 2560x1600 eeek, it'll work, but you'd be right on the edge to be running games at highest settings and pushing a resolution of 1920x1080. Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on June 15, 2009, 06:39:30 AM eeek, it'll work, but you'd be right on the edge to be running games at highest settings and pushing a resolution of 1920x1080. nah it will work Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|buzinator on June 15, 2009, 06:46:58 AM it'll be borderline with the 9600 ... you'll be able to set the res but you may have to tone down some of the bells and whistles to keep a steady frame rate.
Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: DirtySalsa on June 15, 2009, 11:14:00 PM Dude I'm gonna tell you right now that the graphics card you have WILL display at those resolutions but not with any eyecandy or AA. You may have to sacrifice a high setting or 2. In fact having only 512mb will limit you to play on high settings and 2xAA @ 1650x1080 or 1600x1200. You need a 1 gb card to run games flawlessly at 1900x1200 or higher. The 9600GT will run video at those resolutions pretty well just not 3d intensive games. There is a KDS 26" monitor on newegg.com with all the hookups you need. HDMI, DVI and VGA. It's really nice and has a sturdy METAL stand. Most of the reviews were favorable of this monitor and at 279.99 (Item #:N82E16824155056) its a steal!. Tigerdirect has a 28" I-INC that is OWNED BY HANNS G!! 299.99 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3326540&CatId=3774. Look at it its the SAME MODEL as the HANNS G except its all black LOL!! Good LUCK!!
Oh yeah if I was you I would upgrade to either a 1gb 4850 for 119.99 (Item#:N82E16814161275 ) or a 9800gt at 129.99 + free shipping (Item#:N82E16814143185 ) Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on June 16, 2009, 07:50:05 AM I went ahead and pulled the trigger and ordered the 28" Hanns-g this morning. I was looking for size so it was the best bang for the buck.
Title: Re: Looking for a new monitor for under $450 Post by: DirtySalsa on June 16, 2009, 08:38:17 AM The I-INC would have saved you some money. It's made by Hanns G but the monitor you ordered for the price is STILL a GOOD DEAL. Enjoy your new monitor! I am probably gonna get one too so let me know if yours was received without dead or stuck pixels. I need one for my 360.
