Title: Bloxham Park Motorsport Centre v0.98 - 08th Sept '09
Post by: rip|Lumacor on July 21, 2009, 08:11:56 AM
Hi Guys,

A little while ago, a friend and I put together a track for rfactor and Buz kindly helped test it on a number of occasions.

The reception we had for the track was was generally quite well received, and Buz enquired about the possibility of Steve and I converting the track for GTR-EVO / Race07 and I think perhaps you guys using / having it bannered under your own official test track etc (that's if you like it!)

This is to let you know that the conversion is going quite well, and after a lot of frustrating time trying to get the same AI line and cameras from rfactor to convert we are nearing success. It shouldn't be long now before we can offer you a release version long before any other site/s have it to use for GTR-EVO. In fact, I think you might be the only guys who would have it for the game.

An old rfactor video preview can be seen here (1 lap onboard with the AI driving the car, then same lap repeated from TV cameras) :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqU2l71mpW8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqU2l71mpW8)

Since then however, we have updated textures and lighting, so it looks marginally different (for the better!)

(update) v0.98 available here: http://rapidshare.com/files/277329322/BloxhamParkGPv0.98_GTREVO_RIP.rar

There are still a few things to iron out with the conversion, but currently it is race-worthy. We will try to optimise it as much as we can in the near future, but for now, if you want to download it you can get v0.9 here:

Cool, cheers. I'm just working on putting start lights in, and getting some of the wall textures to stop flickering. There's also the 'Touring Car' Circuit on the go, and I have to put a wall in where the touring car pit entrance is on this current GP circuit.

Currently pit stops do not work properly. We are trying our best to remedy the situation. Apologies! If you run a race, I'd suggest either turning damage off, being very careful not to damage your car or racing a distance that does not require refueling.

Also, would you guys like a Whoopass / RIP banner on the track somewhere? I was thinking about replacing the 'rfactor' billboards etc...

AI pitstops / refuelling finally sorted. Billboards on their way too... without boobs however! :P

Sadly, no, I was lobbying Steve (the track's creator) to possibly sneak some boobs in somewhere, however, I think he wants to try and keep it all professional. If I had my way, there would be illuminated boobs instead of start lights. But that's just me....

lol

you know since you know how to convert rfactor tracks to evo, you should get with buz when he gets back because there are some ovals we would like to be in evo and he has been messing around with it

The opening post has been modified to also include this link (http://rapidshare.com/files/259612042/BloxhamParkGPv0.95_GTREVO_RIP.rar (http://rapidshare.com/files/259612042/BloxhamParkGPv0.95_GTREVO_RIP.rar)) to a more updated version of the track for GTR Evo.

Known issues : Start lights not in synch with HUD start lights. Some graphical errors. AI teleports a little too high upon pitting, however cars not damaged. Not all walls yet checked for collisions. Some cut track errors.

I'm looking forward to trying this.  Thank you for the effort you put in to convert it.  I haven't got a chance yet, but assuming no major issues could we use this for the TotW next week?  Buz?

Title: Re: Bloxham Park Motorsport Centre
Post by: rip|Lumacor on July 24, 2009, 01:12:08 PM
I wouldn't have a problem with that, it's what it's there for. However, I would just suggest if you're thinking about that, do some laps with AI and practice laps to see if it's in a finished enough state for you all to be happy to use it :)

haven't been able to test yet as RapidShare is claiming saturation and won't let free users download...but i'd sure like to work this into the TotW schedule.

I have mentioned this to Buz:

In version .95, I have identified 2 pit issues. Number 1) a minor and easily rectifiable issue, the arrow displaying which way to exit your garage currently displays for you to turn right, when it should point left. Number 2) Auto-pit currently only seems to work with the standard touring cars, and other formula, such as wtcc extreme or f3000s will require you to use manual pit, otherwise for some reason, a peculiar error occurs where the car freezes on it's pit spot but doesn't refuel etc.

Hopefully I'll be racing around here with my own livery too, advertising the track, naturally.

Is that track banner positioned so that the sidepod cam sees it? nicely done if so :)

I tried something similar but without checking the camera angle beforehand and completely failed as a result, lol.

was too lazy to fix it...but perhaps I will if we add your skin and release a carpack update.

Oh dear. I've gone carbon fibre texture mad. Good job I backed up the other one. I think the final result will be a blend of the two!

Holy Sh*t.  Grade A job!

Buz, do you think there's anyway I could get that skin to appear in race videos we've already run?

Title: Re: Bloxham Park Motorsport Centre
Post by: rip|buzinator on July 31, 2009, 06:15:39 AM
temporarily swap the dds file on the ai skin Lumacor used in those races ... but that carries with it the risk of seeing it twice if the same AI skin he chose was an AI in the race.

but perhaps, who cares?

Finished Skin

Spent too long on it already. Destracting me from track work!

Anyway, this will be it. I'll send my files to Buz etc.

In fact, given that I just went to the trouble of contacting SimBin about listing us on their site, and I just made a recruiting post over at RSC ... jumping to the F1 mod right now could theoretically deter newcomers.

Indeed, there may be folks out there with F3000 skins who are itching to come use them in a league, or guys with experience/knowledge that would be beneficial to us all (eg, Bretware).

This isn't a No vote on F1's ... but expressing a desire to tread somewhat lightly and give due consideration to our options.

Title: Re: Bloxham Park Motorsport Centre
Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on July 31, 2009, 02:40:00 PM
there also probably people out there dieing to race the f1's. There is like 6 mods out there and 1 in the works. Several for Rfactor and so on

When the time comes lets make sure we bring this to a vote so everyone gets a say so. ;)

Yh, maybe, that's why I mentioned both in my RSC post.
Hopefully we'll get some replies.

I suppose there's also the option you could run a 3rd racing series i.e. F1, on a separate night of the week? Say, a wednesday or whatever etc?
It's nice to have options.

Those damn brits all cool and logical...

I'd vote for a shortened trial F1 series to feel it out.

Second to Chitty's suggestion, with one additional suggestion. A shortened trial series, between the end of GP5 and the start of GP6. 4 races or so?

I finally worked out why 2 particular cars upon spawn would position in bizarre locations (one under the track and one behind garage.)

Will upload a new version of the track in the next day or two after a few more things have been ironed out. :)

I will PM the link to the download of the track
You can run the race but when you run Qualifying or Practice the game locks up after you run a couple of laps and the AI enter the track.

Hope you can help.

Currently uploading v0.97 of Bloxham Park.

- Fixed issue regarding a car position under the track and other behind garages
- Still one of the 'fixed' issues is now and odd garage position where a car slightly has some wheels in the wall, but doesn't really damage the car
- Some new billboards in with the old ones (Hypnotoad / TEAM RIP / WAR etc)
- Safety car now appears in the pit lane, near the petrol pumps

To install, you would probably be best off removing your old Bloxham Park directory and replacing with this one, however, I would suggest you do this after the current TOTW round (unless you rename this one to something else to try it).

(update) v0.97 available here: http://rapidshare.com/files/265597398/BloxhamParkGPv0.97_GTREVO_RIP.rar

(edit) in addition, after you've installed v0.97, please apply the start light fix : http://rapidshare.com/files/268534027/startlights_for_Bloxham_Park.rar

v0.98 now available: http://rapidshare.com/files/277329322/BloxhamParkGPv0.98_GTREVO_RIP.rar

Readme:

==== BloxhamParkGP v0.98 ====

Greetings fellow RIP racers!

Before installing, please delete any previous versions you may have installed of BloxhamParkGP

--------------------

Installation:

Please install BloxhamParkGP in the following destination:

\Steam\steamapps\[your name]\race 07\GameData\Locations

I would advise for AI offline racing or server AI difficulty, set between 92%-95% initially.

--------------------

Improvements since v0.97

-Fixed start light sequence
-tweaked AIW fuel usage from 57000 to 57500 (AI may run out of fuel after race completion, but for human calculations, should be okay
if you run light on fuel, be prepared to short shift or fuel save slightly on the final few
                     laps of a race)

-Fixed a number of AI teleport 'jumps' when coming in to make a pit stop, however some pit positions still have this problem
-Pit lane speed limit altered from 100kph / 60mph to 130kph / 80mph (during an f3000 race with fuel usage normal and tyre usage at 3x
this should make choosing between 1 and 2 stops closer)
--------------------

Setup suggestions:

-I recommend a setup similar to one you might use at Laguna Seca, with a few minor alterations to suit your own driving style
-Top speed at the end of the main start-finish straight should probably peak at about 154/155 mph
-Tyre pressures can afford to be quite low. In the 140s, again, adjusting to suit driving style

--------------------

Note:

With tyre wear now at x3 for WhoopAssGP6, during a 28 lap event at Bloxham Park, the some of the AI make quick pit stops near the end of the
race, not stopping for fuel, but just to change tyres. There is nothing I can do about this with the track itself, as it is a consequence of
having tyre wear set at x3. It does not thankfully happen to all the AI drivers owing to random variables, but sometimes it can seem
peculiar when the AI stop on the final lap of the race, just yards from the finish line.

Hope you all enjoy now that the lights are fixed. You won't believe how awkward they were to sort out!

Cheers!

Lumacor

Progress Update
============

Currently, awaiting further model, lighting and track improvements / adjustments from the original rFactor release from my friend, Steve.

In the near future I will be converting the International version of the track for you all to use in GTR-Evo, which is more suitable for Touring Cars in terms of overall lap times. The AIW for that one is a bit cranky though and needs looking at and adjusting.

So for the time being the track remains at it's current version.

Hope your GP season is going well!

Luke

Buz Update:

I am working on converting Steve's v1.1c from rFactor to Race07. This will include the new International Circuit in addition to the existing GP course.

I have the actual tracks converted and drivable. In its current state it could be used for human-only races with flags-off. However, there are a couple corners that produce false positive cutting alerts when using flags (or take the AI to strange places when they are enabled). The solution for this is probably going to be recording new driving lines, which will probably be a big task.

Also, the TV cams for the International circuit all need adjustment. Lumacor's GP cams work well on that track, perhaps I'll try just using that for the Inter layout and see what happens (all pending his permission, of course).

Buz Update:

Made entirely new AIW for International circuit and new pitlane for GP. Resolved corner cut issues and bizarre Turn-1 AI behavior (thx BPBriles for identifying!).

However, no matter what I do so far, the AI seem unable to pit for fuel & tires. They just drive thru. Still scratching my head.
