Title: Cable Modem Post by: rip|forkev on February 19, 2010, 04:27:53 PM I am switching back Comcast cable in the very near future. The DSL speeds in my hood are to slow.
Comcast requires a 2-year contract and I will have to rent a cable modem from Comcast for $5.00 a month. Thats $120 plus applicable taxes for the extent of my contract. I'd rather buy something now than "throw" my $$$ away on rent and taxes. I found one modem thus far that is DOCSIS 3.0 compliant and only $100. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Motorola+-+SURFboard+eXtreme+Broadband+Cable+Modem/9246693.p?id=1218068107245&skuId=9246693&st=cable modem Thoughts, Suggestions ???? Anybody know anything about cable modems? Title: Re: Cable Modem Post by: rip|buzinator on February 20, 2010, 08:24:43 AM booooo! but you take what you can get i suppose.
Is DOCSIS 3 coming or active in your area? Title: Re: Cable Modem Post by: rip|buzinator on February 20, 2010, 08:34:42 AM slightly cheaper elsewhere ... http://www.google.com/products/catalog?sourceid=chrome&q=SB6120&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=82585629806217219&ei=PPJ_S4-DI4mf8Ab784imBQ&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CBYQ8wIwAg#scoring=tp
Though what use DOCSIS 3 is when they impose a 250GB/mth cap on you, idk. Title: Re: Cable Modem Post by: rip|forkev on February 21, 2010, 07:49:05 PM Yea, beggers can't be choosy.
I don't know if DOCSIS 3 will ever be available in MS but the day that it does and I still have to use a cable modem - I'll be ready. It wasn't much more money to go to a DOCSIS 3, so I figured what the hey. Would you rather buy your own or rent one?? Title: Re: Cable Modem Post by: rip|buzinator on February 22, 2010, 07:49:43 AM I'd buy.
