I dont want to have to buy another pc for a long time. The one I have now I paid $1k for and it lasted for over 4 years. Title: Re: New Pc??? Opinions welcomed Post by: rip|forkev on March 19, 2010, 01:16:50 PM Yea, I noticed that all of the components were top notch.
My video will be Dual 1GB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4870 in CrossfireX. Title: Re: New Pc??? WOW that configuration is 5th on this chart http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-cards-charts-2009-high-quality-update-3/3DMark06-v1.1.0-3DMark-Score,1697.html Title: Re: New Pc??? Title: Re: New Pc??? Opinions welcomed Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on March 19, 2010, 02:01:04 PM actually I just read that you could use the PCIe 4x
16x + 4x configuration Title: Re: New Pc??? Opinions welcomed Post by: rip|buzinator on March 19, 2010, 02:33:58 PM Would you get the same performance though? I'm not particularly familiar with SLI type stuff ... but that sounds a bit odd to me.
Title: Re: New Pc??? Opinions welcomed Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on March 19, 2010, 03:08:35 PM it would be slower compared to a 16x + 16x solution.
Hell the card it comes with is one of the best single GPU cards available right now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102885&cm_re=hd_5850-_-14-102-885-_-Product check out where it ranks http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gaming-graphics-cards-charts-2009-high-quality-update-3/3DMark06-v1.1.0-3DMark-Score,1697.html Title: Re: New Pc??? Better quality machine, but alittle more work. If you look for combo deals you could save more $$ Title: Re: New Pc??? Opinions welcomed Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on March 19, 2010, 04:51:54 PM i7 860 is a good bit faster than the amd that you listed. You paid quite a bit for a little bit of hard drive space even if it is sdd.
I like the i7 860 because it has the turbo boost where if a program isn't using all cores then it will put all the power towards one core and boost it up too 3.64ghz Title: Re: New Pc??? Opinions welcomed Post by: rip|Bretware on March 19, 2010, 05:33:55 PM No the SSD is cool, the machine I listed would seem much faster due to the SSD.
We could argue AMD/Intel all day, but my 940BE@3.6 is amazing. When you compare the quality of the two machines it's no contest, thats not just custom it's top shelf, the board, PSU, memory, case, SSD are the best of the best. It's good everyone dosen't think the same, because then there would be one brand of everything ;D Title: Re: New Pc??? Opinions welcomed Post by: rip|ChITty on March 19, 2010, 09:46:48 PM I'll chime in on this and mention that i completely agree with Bretware... SSDs are off the hook. I've had an Intel X25-m in my gaming PC for a good amount of time now and I just got one put in on my work machine. They really make a huge difference to the feeling of the machine.
Title: Re: New Pc??? Opinions welcomed Post by: rip|forkev on March 22, 2010, 07:19:24 AM Yeap, my next machine will have a solid state drive. I don't need a terabyte of storage anyway. 128GB is plenty for me 8)
If storage space is an issue for you, get a external hard drive. my opinion Title: Re: New Pc??? Opinions welcomed Post by: rip|Bretware on March 22, 2010, 04:28:28 PM If you wait alittle longer you can get it with this CPU for about the same money. 6 cores, 45NM, much better DDR3 memory controler.
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/its_official_amd_confirms_hexacore_thuban_cpu The sickest part is I should be able to drop one into my AM2+ machine, I love AMD. |
