This track is gonna be crazy....

I get the feeling somebody will have a DNF @ this round.

Once you leave the track, there is very little "flat" runoff room.  I predict that I shear a front wheel off somewhere during the race....

Should be intense!!

Post by: rip|buzinator on April 26, 2010, 08:04:07 AM
Agreed, even when there is runoff, you just can't slow down enough for the front wheels to bite ... all you can hope for is that you slow down enough to avoid serious damage when you DO hit the fence.

As far as setup, i'm personally fighting 2 issues ... when the car is heavy, the rear can snap around very easily when changing direction through du Lac ... at such high speed, it's pretty scary, even with full rear wing.

Also, in the very low speed stuff I find the front washes out pretty badly with lots of scrubbing noises and slushy responsiveness to steering input. Not sure if this is a technique thing or setup thing.

I usually have pretty good stability through du lac.  However...  If I come off the throttle during the fast right and left (du lac), before La Musee.  I can get CRAZY snap oversteer on worn tires.

I do have the same scrubbing/washing out through the slow bits.  Tire wear is gonna be my big issue!!

I'll post my setup today.

never heard of the guy, some pub i guess.

I'm regularly in the 1:07's, occasionaly dipping into the 1:06's.
Probably Chitty will show up and do 3 laps in the 1:04's.

crap, well then a lap of 1:10 is not bad after running only 6 laps including the 3 out laps

after about 20 laps i got into the 1:07s

nice setup BP, running pretty smooth

are you guys putting it in first around the slow parts starting at La Piscine?

my replay saved just 10 seconds of me in the pits for some reason, otherwise i would be posting a sick ass screen of me flipping through the air out of the first turn

Thanks EZ.

I am in 2nd through all of the tight bits.

I have died many times over in practice as well.  This track will eat you up if you make a high speed error.

Hey all - Just a warning to avoid any visual confusion :)

I have decided to go retro for this race and will be wearing my Season 5, Green & Orange "Comcast" skin.

Anyone else that wants to go retro with me is very welcome ... Chitty, Bret, Kav?

I'm in on some retro action!

I think I need to complete a race with my new Red Bull skin before going retro

Just a heads up.  I have been noticing that if I enter the pits in a race, coming in HOT.  If I can't get it under about 95ish (crosssing the line) it will NOT let me pit.  I have to pass through and get it the next time.

So I investigated.....

If you are coming in slow or not on full race pace, you can get it to let you pit @ over 100mph crossing the line???

108 is the fastest I tested.  It could be higher, I just have not continued up the speedo yet.

Caught me out in a mock race to practice pitting.  So, I wanted to let you all know that it may surface for you as well.

Well that's different - thanks for testing that BP.

When I fire up the race server tonight I'll give it a test early-on, 7:30 - 8:00pm Eastern if anyone wants to join in.

I'll be there about 8,....... for my lead!!

I don't think I understand what BP is talking about. I thought entering pit road speed was checked by someone after the race to find violators? What am i missing?

i will be off and on as soon as i get home from work until race time.

I do random checks but our current method is to just drive in and let the game automatically manage the pit limiter. Typically it will turn on automatically when you enter the pitlane and then turn off automatically when you exit.

This cuts down on administrative overhead and and pretty much eliminates to possibility of getting a penalty through an honest accident.

Now all I need to watch for is people going 4-off on entry, manually turning the pit limiter off early or manually restarting the engine.

BTW - This seems like a good time to lay down a rule for this track:

The inside of the corner La Piscine (tight right-hander) has an extensive area of white painted surface. This area will be considered out-of-bounds, everyone is to keep 2 tires on the blacktop please.

so are you saying you guys now blast across the line at speeds of 108+ like bp was saying and then the game takes over? I am so lost

Last time we were racing we were slowing down before getting to the line, manually hitting pit limiter or the game wouldnt let you pit. Whats changed? Maybe you can explain tonight in vent.

If I come in fast just like the other races....

On this track, for me, for some reason, the pit option does not even occur.  No arrow, no pit menu, no limiter, nothing.  I have to have it somewhere around 95 to get the pit menu to come on.

Maybe due to the "very" short pit lane length?  Should not be a big deal, as long as you are aware come race time.

Yes ... thesedays we just drive into the pits at race speed (being careful not to go 4-off). The game doesn't take over the car, but it does turn on the pit limiter. After that it's a normal, manual pit stop where you have to confirm the menu settings and come to a stop on your green arrow.

What's changed is that now the game does let you pit (there have been about 3 patches since GP5, I'm guessing the change came in one of them). However,  BP's testing suggests this particular track is an exception. I'll confirm the situation tonight on the actual race server.

Congrats to ChITty for the domination!!  You and EZ were rolling!!  What fuel consumption figures were you getting?

For that matter, what was everybody getting last night?  I was @ 5.4l per lap.

Buz - nice job bringing it back to 3rd after lap 1.  I did not realize how far you dropped back.

Awesome Race! Very happy with my first podium of S7.

What a quali session, solid setup BP

Was getting about 5.4 per lap as well

Congrats to Chitty on the win ... about time man, that was TWO WEEKS ... I was getting worried. lol.

Awesome job Ez, that Pole time was nuts man.

@ BP ... thx, back at you for keeping the pressure on me after I got back in front. You were freakin' me out man! Thank god for traffic ;)

I never checked fuel consumption during the race, but in practice I was using around 6-even when fully loaded.

I enjoyed the time I was there up until the big.

I was very surprised at how aggressive everyone was on the first lap, which helped me go from 5 to 3rd on the 1st or 2nd lap.

I will see everyone on the OVAL next week where I rule the road.
