Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|buzinator on August 24, 2010, 11:22:24 PM Zandy was just a visit since we flew into Amsterdam, it was right there, no way could I pass that up. Missed DTM & F3 by a day, doh.
But will be sitting AT EAU ROUGE, so yeah, there'll be pics of it! ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|buzinator on August 24, 2010, 11:26:57 PM Oh also, am staying in St. Vith, the town used as the setting for the Battle of the Bulge map in BF1942 ... every damned thing out here is historic somehow.
Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: Ezeon on August 24, 2010, 11:34:09 PM Cool Buz, after we crossed the channel we stayed a night in Dunkerque in France, also had alot of WW2 history. Love Zandy and Spa awesome!
Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|ChITty on August 25, 2010, 08:12:32 AM This thread is filled with AWESOME! (even a bf42 reference!)

WAIT!! are you gonna be "sitting at eau rouge during the F1 weekend???? If so, I am SUPER jealous now!! That is my #1 race trip dream...... Eau Rouge during F1. Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|buzinator on August 26, 2010, 11:38:42 PM That's exactly the scenario ... Getting ready to head to the track right now.
Being Spa, it is of course really really rainy ... which I'm not super thrilled about. Race should be good as a result i guess. Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|buzinator on August 27, 2010, 12:41:33 PM rain today was out of control ... there was lightening too.
GP2 Quali got red flagged due to heavy rain, it was nuts, and utterly miserable i have to say. Thankfully there was a spell in the afternoon during F1 Practice 2 when it was actually sunny. Still, eau Rouge is awesome ... i have a new respect for Radillon too. it is crazy steep plus twisty. The Renaults make a weird cruncing/grinding sound thru eau rouge ... no other cars do it. idk if they're bottoming or changing gears under weird g loading or what. (noise is similar to thesound of toyota traction control, if anybody witnessed that in person). Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: bpbriles on August 27, 2010, 12:54:34 PM Those are sweet. Is Pouhon like crazy fast in person?
Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|buzinator on August 27, 2010, 10:47:40 PM Ahh ... Between weather, disgusting crowds and the threat of tunnel collapse I haven't made over that way.
A Canadian guy staying in the b&b with us was there last year and says it is a really good spot. I AM SO JEALOUS I gis'd "jealous" and found this...weird? http://www.product-reviews.net/2007/08/01/ktm-x-bow-americans-jealous-of-us-europeans/ Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: bpbriles on August 28, 2010, 09:54:07 AM Yeah you are in for some "miles" on your tootsies, to see all of spa. Road America just about killed my feet when I made my one trip up there. RA is about as long, but has nowhere near the elevation changes of spa.
Hey was that you crossing the fence in Q2 or 3 today that caused the red flag?? ;) Have a great time and be safe!! Sounds like you are gonna have crazy weather even for spa's standards. Kav- They have ran those X-bows in the Race of Champions. They are nice little rides! Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|buzinator on August 28, 2010, 10:52:31 PM Looks like it's gonna be a wet one, still feel the cold on my bones from yesterday.
At least webber got pole, hopefully he and Lewis won't take each other out...might have to watch their backs though... Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: Ezeon on August 29, 2010, 07:36:03 AM Wow! that was a great race to watch at home, seemed like a lot of stuff happened around where you might have been sitting Buz, must have been fun.
Hamilton was brilliant. I was rooting for him the whole way, to bad Rubens forgot to break at bus stop though was hoping he would do well. Vettel is so unpredictable sometimes it seems, no idea where he was trying to go when he took out Button. Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|buzinator on August 29, 2010, 02:23:43 PM I'm SO over Vettel. Hamilton looks like a wise old man next to him. The douchebag has Rookie written all over him.
Any way - yeah, phenominal race to watch, hope the Renault mechanics are OK. Gutted for Jenson, stoked for Petrov, he drove a great race from far back. Utterly mystified about Alonso, until he went off he was really putting on a great show in recovery. If I ever see rain again I may cry. Can't take any more!!! (If anybody follows GP3, in the AM race young American Alexander Rossi had great time getting from 13th to 3rd too, what a weekend, it has been nuts) Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on August 30, 2010, 07:10:01 AM I'm SO over Vettel. Buz did you notice any odd change in the sound of the Hamilton's or Button's engine? It sounded weird under braking and the host were talking about it. Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|buzinator on August 30, 2010, 08:16:55 AM At our part of the track it was all flat out ... The only odd sound I noticed came from the Renaults, and that actually ceased by qualifying and the race.
Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|mrkavanagh on August 30, 2010, 08:33:56 AM i can't find anything in the news about it, you should check out the video of the race

Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|buzinator on August 30, 2010, 01:01:33 PM I distinctly recall explaining to you that when he subbed for Kubica at Indy after his big Montreal crash I did in fact cheer Seb on his way to being the youngest ever point scorer ... So the charge that I "never" did is not accurate.
As Will Buxton observes, he continues to make rookie mistakes, fails to learn and goes on to make more. And when things don't go his way he freaks out (hand gestures at Istanbul, Hungary etc). What is there to like ? Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|ChITty on September 01, 2010, 08:20:43 AM Well, the likeable guys are generally not the fast guys in F1. But to your point, he has definitely rubbed me the wrong way this season with his antics.
oh yeah and.... WELCOME BACK! Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|buzinator on September 01, 2010, 08:50:22 AM :)
Thx much - was a crazy trip - really made an impression. One of those trips that makes you review wtf you're doing with your life ;) btw - it's true, Belgians DO eat fries with Mayo. Title: Re: ...if you wonder why i'm not on tonight ;) Post by: rip|buzinator on September 02, 2010, 07:41:19 AM Another thing that kinda surprised me was the bottoming/plank-wear. I was familiar with the patch on downhill Eau Rouge entrance, but didn't realize they continue to scrape along nearly half way up Radillon too.
Also didn't realize the scraping produced so much smoke, it got quite hazy and stinky when the cars were full of fuel and running lower. Attached is a pic of Maldonado's GP2 car during practice... |
