Congrats to BP ... that quali time was nuts. I never touched anything remotely like that even when practicing without weight. Despite the glitches, a well deserved victory IMO.

Bet the standings will look interesting now :)

did a quick calc of standings, posted in table above. hopefully accurate, although disappointing that Chitty's not deeper in the hole, lol

:P

Thanks Buz. The glitches suck!!           >:(

What actually happened last night?  I was having trouble hearing everyone when @ full song. .....  I take it that you and EZ went BSoD when everyone disappeared from my screen and timing...

Thanks for the setup as well! ..... I did 4 laps with my old one as practice started(1m46.2). Then I popped in the one you sent me earlier in the day, it took 1.2 seconds off my time off the bat.  I threw on a couple of clicks of DF, more F camber and reduced the toe and got to my Q pace. The setup was key!

Was anyone else on a 2 stop strat?

EZ love the poster!

Here's the readme file I sent to Chitty along with the logs, hopefully it is accurate ...

Quote
Lap 10 ... Buz DNF due to BSOD ... was ahead of Fabio Leimer at the time.

~Lap 10 ... apparently a glitch causing all cars to vanish.

Lap 12 ... Ezeon quits, thinking server is no longer tracking his progress ... was ahead of Chris van der Drift at the time.

~Lap 13 ... visibility glitch corrects itself, race continues to natural end.

Note: this race FUCKING SUCKED! :(

I checked the server's OS logs, no errors or events with coincidental timing.
My best guess is that a UseNet binary downloader daemon was behaving badly,
as I noticed it using 35% CPU (on a C2Q!) despite being idle. I restarted
the daemon and CPU usage went back to 5%, total.

Will be stopping the daemon on race night in future.

In chatting with Chitty this morning, he hinted at possible parallels with Abu Dhabi ... idk how folks feel about that, only 37% of the race was run at the time of the initial glitch, IMO that's insufficient to award half points. I suppose other options could be to re-run the race (perhaps TC style, starting from back?) or just declare the event null and void.

My 2c, apply the 'unable to complete the race' rule. It's there to be used and IMO produces a pretty good grouping in the championship, as you can see in the unofficial standings above - which also reflect the 1 race drop so far. (BP has lead more laps than me, hence he is shown as leader)

CRAZY!

I am good with whatever.

If I had to narrow it down... the "Abu Dhabi" or "Unable to complete" scenarios would seem most logical to me.

Well, here is what happened to me during those two laps after Buz got a BSOD,

I'm approaching the finish line on lap 10 and see a car stop right on the driving line.

As I get closer and closer I realize it is stopped, swirve like a mad man around him and manage to keep going, but he disapeared right as I got near him, so weird.

At that point I was getting tricked into thinking the same thing was happening that happened at Abu Dhabi, I looked at the leader board and it was me and Bret in the lead, which meant 6 or so ai cars and BP either vanished or pitted during my madness on the line and I did not realize. So I figured having two people racing was just going to result in the Abu Dhabi scenario.

ok ... should we run a poll to see how we proceed (as we did with Abu Dhabi?)

EDIT: I'm going to anyway, if only for curiosity's sake.

ok, poll posted up above ... vote changing is enabled if we change our minds.

As I did not participate in the race and therefore do not have first hand experience of the problems experienced... AND I stand to gain significantly more from some of the options above, I will not be participating in the poll.

I think we should put something in stone for the future, If the server has an glich before half way we do.....????
If it is after half way we do....?????
And also a definition for "Glich"

As far as race two, what ever Buz thinks is fair.

@ Bret - Did you experience the issue EZ & BP mentioned, stuttering &/or disappearance of other cars?

Just curious.

I did see it, I'm pretty sure it's been happening at every race, just not always so bad that it boots people.

I'm confused on the lap 10/half points thing, were really just using the standard "behind the highest finishing human" rule, and only giving half points, right?
Maybe in the future we would throw the white flag next time by, or maybe the checkers, I might start setting up my car to when I think the server will crash ;D

I see it BP-1st, BW-2nd, then whatever is figured on EZ and BZ, 3rd & 4th

Here is the situation I've been mulling over.

The 'unable to complete' rule was written to deal with an individual having an issue. The result of applying it is currently visible on the unofficial standings table.

The Abu Dhabi precedent was to cope with the server having a single issue that affected multiple drivers. That is the scenario where half points would be awarded based on running order at the time of the server side incident.

Although this seems to have either been a server incident or perhaps an individual incident that disrupted the server, as far as I can tell I was the only one to actually experience a disconnect ... I haven't seen any indication from EZ that he asked around prior to disconnecting, so it's a tough call from a few points of view, but I think my vote will remain to apply the 'unable to complete' rule and move on.

Hopefully EZ would be ok with that, it does afford him more total points than the AbDab method, which might actually help him in the long term.

Just saw bret's other remark about cars vanishing in every race ... That alarms me greatly, that has not at all been my experience.

Is this happening frequently for everyone?? If so for how long? Just this season? Forever? We are running the server/s off of a different physical host machine in gp8 ... If it seems like it could help I can revert to the original machine that was used in previous seasons...

I actually was asking around, but I had not known at the time but my mic button was not working. During practice my wheel reset itself for some reason so I had to restart the game as well. I totally forgot to redo the input for mic to my wheel so basically I was talking to myself for the whole latter half of the evening lol....wooops

I'm totally fine with the 'unable to compete' rule. As long as I get some sort of darwin award :P

lmao ... still more levels of suckage, where will it end? It's like, fractal or something.

Anyway - Let's get a ruling done so we can move on:

Chitty, I hereby invoke the 'unable to complete' rule, it is to be applied to myself and Ez when you do the race & championship analysis.

That done, I reiterate my congrats to BP ... especially since learning he did a two stopper. DAMN dude.

Respect to Bret, a titanic battle was interrupted by my BSOD. Looking forward to our next one.

Also impressed with Ez, beat me off the line ... and after the lap 1 issue he made it up to 2nd place before abandoning ... if anyone had anything for BP it was him.

Can't wait for the next race.
