I applied for a team a few days ago and took over an American F2 team. You can also be in user created leagues it looks like. So far I have just bought a few components for my cars that where better than the ones given. I did some testing and looks like im not to far off the pace. You have to start very slow and not spend to much money out of the gate. make sure to subscribe to this forum so you can browse read some of the beginner tips: http://f1project.org/forum/viewassociazione.php?id=456 also you can get pretty good deals on components if you hound the auctions and pounce at the right time. I'd say don't go over 10-15k for anything other than tyres. I'm usually shooting for at least the acceptable level for each attribute, but not much over that. I beat the second placed team in the division and grabbed 27 points.
You really have to be careful with repairs, after your first race asses each part's damage and repair cost individually, it might save you a lot of money just to buy a new part.
