Title: Team Whoopass takes on iRacing
Post by: Ezeon on March 08, 2011, 11:07:38 AM
So BP and I are in a league on Monday nights in iRacing, three classes make up around 40 cars each race. We race in the ST class with Mazda MX-5s. Last night was BP's first race.

Here's a shot of us going up Eau Rouge in the new team Livery

I hope you can make lots more races BP, it was awesome seeing you on the grid behind me :)

ps Buz I also attached your livery, anyone else who joins/tries iRacing I shall make one for you!

pretty cool shit. thx Ez.

Being the left side driver position, those are the models with the crappier gear ratios right?

What times are the sessions for these Monday night events?

Practice starts at 7:30, with quali usually starting around 9:30.

ok - not too different to our own setup then?
Though I'm guessing the race session starts a bit later than ours ... how long are the races btw?

I think they are usually around 50-60min.  Last night was a 2 hr enduro.

Here is the schedule link  http://www.israleague.com/schedule

Yeah I will be back next Monday for sure.  REALLY HATE that I got took out @ the end of lap 2!  I was PISSED

EZ - I watched you until about lap 25 or so.  Nice battle w Ryan!

I really like racing the multiclass in the slower car.  It's a great challenge.  The MX5 is still one of my favs on iRacing.

Buz - the gears on the MX5 cup (LHD) have been fixed in a patch..... I believe.  EZ might know more on that one.

I didn't see what happened to you BP as my replay only saved back to lap 11. That's a bummer! Stick with it though, it took me a couple races last season to find the finish line. I find there are a few ways to run this series and there are drivers at each level. Some race for the win and want to grab pole, ect. Others just sit back and try to run as clean and smooth as possible, which is almost always guaranteed to get you to the line. I was amazed to find myself leading a few laps last night. Settled into 3rd spot after my two pit stops and grabbed a podium spot :)

I don't really remember what they did to the car last patch, but I'm pretty sure they made the cup and roadster more level in terms of gearing, but the Cup is still 6 gears, which you don't use very often, but the cup is the only MX-5 that runs in this series so it does not matter much.

Congrats EZ on the "Hard charger" award @ Road America.  Great job!
I see you got some great "face time" in the long version of the Spa video too.

@ RA, I spent 1 min 10sec in the pits "fighting" with my crew chief!!  Would not give out any fuel, so had to cruise the last few laps to make the distance!  Lesson learned!
Excluding the "PIT ERROR" I should have finished  4th, barring any other issues ...oh well.
VERY fun and exciting race.  I am REALLY diggin', being in the slowest of 3 classes.

Don't suppose you have a link to that vid? I couldn't seem to find it via the ISRA site.

It's an epic video, that on-board footage of me is great, those Mustangs are pigs in the corners but pack a mean punch if you get in their way.

Awesome to get that Hard Charger award at Road America, my Quali was terrible so I was starting in a group I could probably get by, but was also fortunate with other people falling out.

I had that fuel bug also. I had planned a stop and go, tires did fall off a bit though.

Yeah, there was a lot of attrition.

Hey, now I see we swept the awards in our class!!

I got the clean driver award.   Yeah ..... Teamwork!

:) nicely done.

That was pretty entertaining when you were dicing with the Mustang Ez. Bummer there had to eventually be a straight where he could just plant it.

Well we are not exactly racing each other anyways. But I love those situations because the MX-5 has quicker cornering speed, always gives the Mustangs a bit of shock to zoom around them until the straights.

For sure, but it's still a nice ego boost to tangle with a higher class machine in a decent way even if only briefly ... punching above your weight or whatever ;)
