Title: I don't mean to be a downer but...
Post by: Ezeon on August 25, 2011, 09:49:46 AM
I was really looking forward to BF3, and I still might get it. But the program required to be installed to play it is pretty much a trojan and key logger. According to the EULA the only way to op out of EA snooping around your PC's activity is to not install it, and therefor any of the games that require it.

fwiw ... sounds like it's the Origin store app that's doing it(?)

Quote
Haha, found a way around having to use it all the time for my games. Just go .exe hunting to find where the games are installed, add them to Steam as 3rd party programs, close Origin and then just launch them from Steam. Been doing this with Crysis 2 today and it works like a charm.

Could even rename the offending exe so it doesn't run (unless the game requires it i suppose).

i do agree though that EA's stance is totally outrageous, and accepting/ignoring it is a slippery slope.

other replies from that web site:

And for the record, I don't really give a shit what info EA gathers from me. If they want to know what hardware I run, and what games I install/uninstall, they can have that info. Doesn't bother me. It clearly says that info will not be personally identifiable to me when shared with 3rd parties, so it's just gathering statistics basically. I'd be more than willing to bet Steam does the exact same thing.

The Great Debate......this is the future boys and girls; soon there will be smart power meters (on your homes) collecting and sending data (google smart meters).....the possibilities of info gathering devices are limitless in the near future.

Spies I tell ya!

I was hoping someone would find a work-around.

I'm looking forward to it as well, looks like the old BF is back with that latest video.

Have they published hardware requirements?

The preview vids so far make it look like a lot of horsepower is needed.

EA has changed the EULA from all the negative feedback they initially received.

I RECOMMEND ALL OF YOU READ AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF. Privacy should be taken serious.
