First up ...

The first race of the season with a 180ish degree right hander?  There's no way this isn't going to be ugly!   8O

Until GRID provides a qualifying feature we have to decide on a method of forming up the starting grid, here is my thinking on the matter...

I favor grid reversal, either full or partial.

FULL : Thru the regular season i think the starting grid should just be the reverse of the previous race's finishing order. For the 1st race of the season i propose we use the previous season's standings (and reverse it). Also if we have new players, they get promoted to the front in the order they arrived.

Under this scenario GP Round 1 starting order would look like this:

Row 1: toadly - Indent
Row 2: ChITty - W33dy
Row 3: Mofficer - Jackal
Row 4: Kav - Dude
Row 5: Buz

PARTIAL : A concept that is used in real world racing, is reversing the first x number of positions from the previous race ... often the top 8 in larger fields, i'm thinking 4 for ours. The rest of the grid is in forward order of last race results... Under this scenario our order would be:

Row 1: Jackal - Kav
Row 2: Dude - Buz
Row 3: MOfficer - W33dy
Row 4: ChITty - Indent
Row 5: toadly

This would result in a secondary battle for 4th place as it would mean pole in the next race. During the race people will have to pick their battles and weigh up whether they want to race for real points now, or lay off so they get a higher grid spot next time (and gamble that they'll get more points in future that way).


Either way, we need to decide on a technique ahead of time so we know what order we should ready-up in.

So does one of those idea work for you guys? (or are there other suggestions for handling it?)

@ ChITty - lol ... hey, it has a decent run-off ... i recommend people remember this and be prepared to use it, or hold up and duck up the inside when everyone goes flying wide.

yeah, that's how the game works as i understand it.
i think it also has a random option but i don't feel like that's appropriate for a longer term series like this.

Personally, I was surprised I got pole, and even more surprised that I got a decent start off the line - I also think people did well through turn 1, i hope we see more of that kind of patience. After a bit of a battle with Kav things settled down for me and I had a pretty quiet race ... probably I should have pushed harder for fastest lap, but i was afraid of throwing away a 6 second lead.
