IMO, the Hot Laps system we have in place did it's job.

Guys got some points, and it helped everyone familiarize with the tracks prior to qualifying & the race.

Keep it as is I say.

Wondering if maybe the top 3 drivers in points shouldn't be eligible for the bonus point, in an effort to try and tighten up the points chase alittle.
Just an idea.

That concept, while interesting, seems kind of redundant given the ballast system is intended to close up the championship(?)...

Suggestion:  If the points leader wins the hot lap session, they only get 1 point, but if someone else wins it, they get 2.

Pros:

- keeps the leader from extending his lead
- allows others the opportunity to close the gap to the leader if they win the session
- motivation for the leader to try and win the hot lap session to keep others from closing the gap

That is likily to cause a bigger seperation for 2nd-5th, how about points leader can't get the point, only protect the point by winning(no point awarded) And no driver may win the fast lap twice in a row, that would limit a driver to 5 points max in a ten race season.

ok, so if i understand this right ...

Chitty's concept ... everyone who turns a lap gets 1 point. If the championship leader sets the hottest lap, the additional bonus point is awarded to the driver with the 2nd hottest lap.

Bret's concept ... everyone who turns a lap gets 1 point. If the championship leader sets the hottest lap, no additional bonus point is awarded to anyone.

Does that sum it up accurately?

My concept was exactly like Bret's as summarized there.

upon rereading it, that does indeed seem to be the case. thx.

So, is there any difference? Seems not to me, in which case we have have a new system IMO.

EDIT: Ok, Bret's system introduces the no-consecutive Hottest Lap bonus rule. Which I am fine with ... you guys?

EDIT #2: Perhaps rather than worry about what constitutes consecutive and keep track of it etc, we should just say ... 5 is the max number of Hottest Lap Bonuses anyone can collect. After 5, all they can do is try to prevent others from getting the bonus (same as for the championship leader).

Ya, I see it's the same, I was think that the 2 points were in addition to the participation point.
Sorry for the confusion.

Do you still want to consider limiting the number times someone can win the hottest lap bonus?

(Nice GP6 Golden Wreath btw Bret Wink )

My thinking on this is, in my opinion it would be bad for the league if one driver was to win every hot lap point. This has not happened, just covering the what ifs.

ok, i'll do some interpretation of that statement Wink and pencil in a 5pt cap to Hottest lap Bonuses...with the Championship Leader unable to get the bonus, but able to block others from getting it.
