whats the difference between blue and green?

blue is a regular 7200rpm drive, green will go into idle mode much more easily (spins down to 5400rpm and parks the heads). Green is fine for storing media ... if you're looking to install an OS or run apps from the drive then Blue is probably a better choice.

I need this drive as a drive that I will store all media on and install programs. I will be reinstalling windows again soon and will the 160gb drive I have alone after installing windows on it. I will only install programs and download media to the new 1tb drive.

I guess I lean towards suggesting the blue then. You could get away with the green i'm sure, but if you're running games off it ... i'm not sure what kind of results you'd get.

I have 2 greens in my media center box, but all they do is hold media. Apps get installed on the OS drive.
