So I got a new case today (Silverstone Raven 2) that I won on twitter. It got me thinking about a potential new build (next year?) I was trying to get a budget idea on cost & also needed some help with new technology.

Im not the most tech savy person. But know some stuff. However I am a bit out of the loop on the new technology & wanted a better understanding.

SSD - I understand the basic concept. What I want is Fast Boot & even faster load of games since thats what I use my pc for. From what I read SSD would be best for this. I would plan on getting Win 7 as Op system. What size SSD would I need? I would use a standard HD for storage & game files. Or do games need to be on the SSD to run? Any particular brand better?

RAM - DDR3? Is that the newest & greatest? Whats everyone recommend? 4 gigs (2 x 2 gig)? No real preference on brand.. Maybe Crucial since they have been good to me for LAN parties. I currently run OCZ.

You seem to be on the right track, 64G SSD should due if you have other hard drives. The week link on the SSD is the write speed so look for one with good speed.  On the ram, I like OCZ, the rage in ram right now is highly overclocked.
Can't really recommend anything specific unless we know, AMD or Intel?  Green or Red? Maybe a price range.
Good Luck

Well I am married with a Kid so money is a concern. But the wife is complaining about the current computer so Wink

I've been a Intel guy.. so probably would stick with Intel. Currently running a E6750 Duo Core. Probably would go with the i5.

I've always used ATI cards. But would look at nVidia as well. No preference there really. My current card is a ATI Saphire HD 4830 . I might just re-use that for now & upgrade later to save some money on the build.

CPU - intel i5?
Mobo -?
RAM - ?
SSD - ?
HD - ? 1 TB maybe for storage?
RAM - 4 gigs of ?
PSU -

Hoping to keep it under $1000. But less would be better. Wink

Here this site has all GPU's and CPU's ranked. It also gives you an idea on the price of the cpu or gpu.
