http://www.netkar-pro.com/
Its like $27
I attached the included vehicles. It seems that everyone says its the best openwheel sim and it was used to make F1 Ferrari Academy.
Check out the features
Ftarget car (f3000)...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WoPX0DnRH8
There is a free demo, so its worth checking out.

I have Netkar, it's good, but track selection is very limited, also requires a lot of teaking within notepad to get controls you really like. The gui does not have all options available to change.
Also it is made by one guy, yes just 1, and it probably is not his primary job because he has been working on updating it for a long long time now. But supposedly there is an update with three new cars coming before xmas.
There is a small amount of tracks available through community downloads, also when I went to try out multiplayer recently I saw a few tracks I did not have so they are out there, just not a lot of them.
I personally would love to see more people here try
iRacing
out, it is the best sim of a car there is. It is a total online sim, there is no ai, every session you join has real drivers. The popular series have full driver counts in races all day and late into the night. You can host private races yourself as well and you get complete data about your session and full admin control including waiving penalties, ect. Everyone is easily accessible to, you can look at my profile and know everything about how I have been racing. You can see what sessions your friends are in and join them right away or spectate them if they are racing.
Road racing and Oval racing are two different parts, you do not have to race a single oval race if you do not want to. In the equivalent of an F3000 series there is one oval all season, mostly I think to get oval guys to try road racing. After the season they drop your four worst rounds so it would not even matter if you skipped it. Also the licensing and rating of each driver is amazing because it ensures that you are not put in a race that is out of your pace.
Eitherway I am more than happy with keeping Simbin. I would be open to F1 2010 but I would have to see if the patch fixes anything before I made my judgement, it just does not have a very friendly interface for what we are doing. I would also be open to the original Rfactor, the community behind that game is immense, it would be extremely easy to find a suitable mod.

My personal prob with iRacing is the cost & it's recurring nature. That just kills it dead instantly for me, boomheadshot, however sweet it might be.
rFactor was always what I had wanted, I originally tried to get folks to go that way after Grid trailed off. But I think the gfx are too dated for some of the snooty amongst us (no prizes for guessing who).
I very much enjoy SimBin's games, but admit we've done them before. Although rF is of similar vintage, it is new to us and I think could be pretty entertaining. (perhaps a side-series could be done for those with the desire? This was intended a while back, with Lumacor at the lead, but scheduling & budgets overcame the group)
However, I think F1 2010 does have potential, for the short term at least. Many of the bugs are related to AI so I think in multiplayer it would be less troubled. Our chances of increasing our grid size are better too, being a recent release.

Have you tried v1.1 of netkar? Also I just came across tons of tracks for it over at racedepartment. If you goto NKP's website you will see there is a new open wheel car coming. Some people think it might be based on A1gp.....

I am open to doing rfactor or anything besides f2000 again...some other open wheel with more horses

DIE DIE DIE DIE!
so should we put down as a "maybe" for iRacing?
I am 99.99% sure I will be buying the PS3 Gt5 bundle when it goes on pre-sale. My wife isn't going to be happy, so I might be playing with broken legs or something. Broken bones heal though....
i agree that we would get a huge influx of members if we do f1 2010
I am downloading the trial of netkar pro and going to try out FSONE2009 for rFactor also....

Yes the price is annoying, maybe someday in the future they will be even bigger and won't have to charge much, but I just love that it's almost like paying for my own personal developer.
On rFactor graphics, its not that bad!! If you manually turn up you AA and AF in your card's software, or using a program like nHancer you can get the graphics looking nice, if not better than the Race series. I would do some comparision screenshots but I uninstalled rFactor because of F1 2010's footprint on my drive, also I had a wooping 40 gigs worth of tracks and mods
If we picked up on rFactor, since it has driver swaps, we could also enter a team into endurance events, like a series they do at racedepartment, that would be awesome!
Whatever we do pick, I will be happy, I enjoy racing with all of you!

Agreed, Chitty has been so dismissive I haven't even been able to determine if he's looking at DX7 screens from original release or what. rFactor is DX9 now (like F1 2010 & Race07).
Plus it has alpha support in skins (mirror finish ... or matte ... or mixed)
Plus it has texture blending (eg, in verges/kitty litter) that's more advanced/attractive than Race07.
Plus the logs aren't broken, which allows for accurate parsing by stats/analysis apps.
Plus you can customize the starting grid, car by car, completely arbitrarily.
Plus admins (and junior admins) can issue server commands on the fly, via chat.
Plus you can have safety cars / restarts.
Plus you can add/subtract AI cars on the fly.
Plus you can forcibly disable setups if you want level-playing-field races.
...
But anyway - damn - i had no idea you were such a racer Ez

Yes I set rFactor to DX9 and manually set the graphics under nVidia control panel and the graphics are nice.
I think rFactor has potential to be a great change to the GP series. I briefly tried out the GP2 2008-2010 mod and the FSONE2009 mod. I have yet to figure out how to use the rFactor Mod manager. I currently made two installs of rFactor lite. One for GP2 2008-2010 and one for FSONE 2009. You will notice in the videos for FSONE 2009 it actually changes quite a bit of GUI and model showroom. Buz maybe you can help me with the mod manager.
Here are some videos from both mods that are worth a look.

Also these people have their own open wheel mod, which is very detailed and has its own installer for rFactor. Worth a look and I don't think they would mind us using it for our league

Well, just to clarify, I'm not talking about it as a new GP sim. As noted above "side series".
I think our strongest candidates for GP are F3000 & F1 2010. And I'm actually starting to lean towards F1 2010.
