Tuesday, Nov 23

RaceOn / Race07

Similar to last week:

 - Test Formula Masters ... playing with fuel and tire rates.

 - Test 2007 F1 Mod ... for anyone that requests it.

I see from the logs that some folks have had a crack at this already - I've now backed off the AI setting based on the times I saw in the last 24hrs.

They should be a bit more beatable than last week now, but hopefully still present somewhat of a challenge. I'm curious to see if we have less trouble when closure rate on them is reduced ... though I imagine making them harder to overtake will present new issues Wink

Things to do tonight,

1. Check weight on new car
2. Check tire wear vs. fuel ratio
3. Tear down and inspect Chitty's race car

Help BP get his car to "tolerate" the bumps into Norra curve.    Cry

Nice list Smiley

Yes, will have to do some back to back runs using ballast.

As for Fuel ... do we want to consider a refuelling ban, as per F1?

BP, since I adjusted the AI down 2 clicks ... how'd they seem?

I am now just 1-2 seconds quicker than AI in practice.  I am still struggling a bit with the balance of this car.  I am yet to get in the 1m25's w full fuel.

I think I was 8th-12th with the AI higher last night.  What % are they on now?

I've not been around other AI cars very much to rate their aggression /stupidity yet.

Ballast - Chitty estimates 75KG costs about 2sec (at Brno). Are we happy with that or should we modify? Considering he still seemed untouchable, it is tempting to bump up the values a bit (all of them) ... eg:

1st ... 85kg
2nd ... 50kg
3rd ... 30kg
4th ... 15kg

I am good with ballast being moved up.  May change cause and effect a bit.  Bernie is gonna "shake" things up this season for sure!!  Can we use shortcuts too?     Wink

I have a noob question, if we are moving from one car to another.  Like GP this season and TC about every season.

Should we have weight applied in the first race?  If it's the same car from season to season I can understand.        Just wondering.       Huh?

A reasonable question ... I think it's fair to go with whatever the consensus is in the case of GP, as it's been a while since we changed things up.

How does everyone feel about the Round 1 ballast situation? carry over or start fresh?

How come more weight? I was expecting a possible reduction since the car has less power, is the increase because the car has more down force and corners better?

As far as no starting weight, to avoid a conflict of interest I have no opinion.

Weight increase concept came about as a result of Chitty's somewhat extreme dominance even when he had 75kg and we all had none.

Conflict of interest or not - I'd still be interested in hearing your opinion...

Damn I hate when I write for 10 mins then hit the wrong button and lose it.

Without the explaintion that I lost, half weight may be the answer for the first race.

But then I got thinking, should we factor in the one race drop into the weight as we go, this would mean the data needed wouldn't be until after race two.
Maybe something like this
Race 1
50% of weight table based on gp7
Race 2
75% of weight table based on Race1
Race 3
Normal weight

Needs more thought

keep thinking then ... you've certainly got my attention.

Seems like that might help smooth out what might be some crazy back and forth over the first few races, graduate it a bit so it works in a smoother fashion, like it does naturally in the later parts of the season.

Ok, given that the FM is a lighter car than the F3000, I think we'll be sticking with the established ballast masses.

However - is there any interest in Bret's concept of gradual introduction of ballast?

Bonus point for answering whether ballast should be applied in Round 1 (under either system).
