- Well, you'd get 0 Douchebaggary in private race sessions, so that's a moot point.

- Yes, there is damage.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR8CQxM_LFo

... and day/night cycle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1OZCwRGFUA

...and dynamic weather http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HNrkiFQX54

... and whatever the F this is designed by Adrian Newey http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5317.html

- Regarding anticipated racing activity:

They've spent 60 million on GT5 development, so one would figure they're expecting at least a million in sales.

GT the original sold 3.99m copies
GT2 sold 3.96m
GT3 sold 7.14m
GT4 sold 3.05m
GT5P sold 1.16m (remember, this was basically a demo)

Source: http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/list.html

youtube videos:
The video with the highest view count when searching for iracing is 103K (uploaded 2 yrs ago).  For GT5, 1.5m views (uploaded 1 yr ago)

http://www.google.com/trends?q=iracing,+gran+turismo+5&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=1

I feel quite confident that the racing activity in GT5 will be substantially larger than iracing.

OK, OK, OK!

I don't think we are going to agree on this subject.

The graphics are great, damage, weather and day/night looks great as well.    Tongue

I would think that something this anticipated, (GT5) that has been promised for years now, would have lots of hits on youtube.  That is no surprise.

This is really like comparing apples and oranges.

Come on sin a little.........         Wink      It won't hurt at all.
Then you can have an informed, well rounded opinion of I-racing.

Well you'd think all those fancy real racers would get hits on youtube as well.  I don't think you're really trying to suggest that iracing will have anywhere near the amount of racing activity that GT5 will are you?  I just noticed that iracing bosts 20k members on their site...

It's not really apples to oranges...

They're both racing games.  The cost of an entire PS3 system and game is equivalent to the cost of iracing for a year + a modest selection of cars and tracks.  Ignoring the benefits of the PS3 as a media streamer, the best netflix player, gaming system, Blu-ray player,  the differences are that GT5 will have:

- More racers
- Immensely better graphics
- Way more cars
- More tracks?
- Karting, WRC
- Team manager mode
- A course maker
- A single player component

I guess laying it out like that makes me come around to it being an apples to oranges comparison, because you get a hell of a lot more for the money from one of them...  Smiley

If you're going to spam pictures, at least try to make them ones that everyone and their mothers haven't seen hundreds of times already.

Turning the discussion back to iRacing ... I tried the legends car on some short track oval the other night, did a couple timed laps but after 3 or 4, I suddenly found i was not able to turn a single lap without the back coming around and causing me to completely lose control.

I've tried a bunch of things with throttle and gears, brakes and steering, but just find that I cannot understand how it's meant to work, I can't make it around 1 stinking turn ... and that worries me pretty deeply as I look at the higher vehicles on offer (eg, the F1).

You could give these settings a try. Found them on a real life legends website

see attachment

and also

Setting Toe in-out:

Recommendations are for 1/4" to 3/4" toe out for Oval racing.

ChITty---  Come on, sin a bit.......

Kav---  LOVE...... , I mean love the special olympics pic.   Classic!!

Buz---  Same here with the legend car.  Ovals are tough!!  Don't let them dictate your opinion of any road car.    I'll look tonite and see if I have any setups.  My line was way off until I practiced on a public server and tailed some folks.  That will be the key, it will get you down in the 18.1-.3 range easy.  Have you improved your Limerock time since the other night?  Be glad to practice with you some night and give a hh.

sin.. a bit?   $156 bucks just to race two shitty cars for 1 year.  That's more than sinning a bit.  I respect both you and Ez and the fact that you find enjoyment in it to get too negative, because I know there must be some value there if you like it, but superficially it seems.. well... crazy.

WOW!

This post was meant to share some cool vids with everyone.  Not this mess.

Any comparison or reference I made with PS3/GT and I-racing was purely about "cost", from my perspective or the "DB" factor.

My perspective on cost is, that I am used to paying for tires, gas, track fees, travel, not to mention broken parts.  I-racing scratches "MY" itch for racing like no other SIM has been close to doing before.  I have no guilt about reducing track time this year.  So $50, much less $12 a month is a real bargin "to me".

My cost perspective on the PS3 being,  I just can't drop 3 to 4 bills all at once for basically 1 game.  I already have a blueray player and an Xbox.  It's just not cost efficent "to me".

I had already stated I was a fan of GT and their physics were top notch.  I am not arguing the popularity nor the potential subscribers.  I was talking about cost, from my perspective.  That's all.

I stand firm on the "DB" factor.  You really have no way to fully understand until you have experienced it.  It simply works.

You all asked the questions, I answered them best I could. I was never trying to force something on anyone.  Then I feel it turned a bit ugly.  I apologize for any way I was mistaken and rest assured, me and those "fancy real racers" won't bother you with anymore posts about our "2 shitty cars".

With all due respect, I'll stick to approved material from now on and I also consider the hatchet buried.

Sorry if I came off too strong, I'm easily excited when debating.

You're an awesome guy and I definitely don't want to piss you off.  The fact that you and EZ say iracing is cool has actually, believe it or not, made it cross my mind as an option.  The problem is that the whole i racing thing pissed me off from the start and that it was focused towards nascar.

If buz ended up heading that direction, despite my vitriolic criticism, I actually would as well.

I think it has a lot of hidden value that is hard to see from the non-subscriber looking in from outside. You can watch all the youtube videos and read whatever but it has so many upsides that come out after you have been a subscriber after so many weeks.

Actually I moved out of the rookie class within the first week I was there. Sure I had lots of bad races during that time, but I would just move on to the next to try and gain back what I had lost. You don't have to race a 'crappy car' for a whole year! The only car I credit to being crappy was the solstice, and after I ran a practice session with Buz and BP in it, after being away so long, I was actually finding it fun. Anyways, now the base rookie car will be the MX-5 and that is going to be very popular up and down the ranks.

I found this article to be very informative before I jumped on iRacing, great explanation of how it works:
