Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is an absolute blast to play online. While a few more maps in the campaign would’ve been great, the rich XP system should keep you going back for a long time.

And so, as the remaining word count for this review spools down to nothing, we realize there's much more to say about ETQW and we'll probably touch on that in the coming months. Hell, we haven't even got space left to talk about the persistent stat systems and all the community support tools that Splash Damage have tied into the game, or even the astounding bot AI. Instead we're going to have to recommend that you go and discover them in person. Enemy Territory Quake Wars is worth seeing for yourself.

We can't say we're surprised by how good it's turned out either - this is generally the sort of quality you should expect when you get Splash Damage and id working together. On the one hand you've got the sheer technical prowess and experience of id, and on the other you've got Splash Damage's intrinsic understanding of what makes a good online shooter. Together, you've got a game that could set a new benchmark for the genre.

If you're an Enemy Territory veteran, this is the logical next step for you. And if you've been turned off by team shooters in the past, this one may change your mind. The accessible, objective-focused gameplay won't be for everyone, especially those into the chaotic, freeform warfare of other team shooters. But all told, Quake Wars is great fun and should provide FPS fans with a lot to sink their teeth into.

So, single-player fans need not apply - but for online players, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a title which stacks up surprisingly well with Valve's Team Fortress 2. It can't quite match the polish, presentation and beautifully conceived design of Valve's latest, but Quake Wars sets out to provide a totally different experience, and does so very well - with a set of well-designed, expansive levels and great vehicles being the stand-out factors. It's turning out to be a great month for online FPS gamers; and Enemy Territory is definitely another fight worth finishing.

ETQW delivers plenty of fast-paced action, and nothing beats the feeling of finally breaking through firmly entrenched defenses. It's not the absolute best multiplayer game, but it's definitely worth playing.

Thanks for the reviews.
Have you found the problem that the GDF keeps losing?
