I just picked up a momo race wheel today.  I'm trying to find my groove with the wheel... entirely different than the keyboard lol

I'm currently running 54.24's on Donnington National.  Just curious as to what everyone else is running.  I'm hoping I'm within the 'status quo'  Cool

Congrats!  I'm jealous.  Sad

I'm running low 52s right now.

if you get the right line you don't need to cut ... but very hard to do it perfect, without lifting.

i'm not at all surprised the wheel seems so foreign, the only cure is laps and more laps...it'll come.

No, I get 51s with cutting the chicane.  I haven't yet been able to do the chicane correctly at full speed.  It always results with me in the wall on the other side of the chicane.

Well, I'm down to high 52's now.  Two corners/sections that still baffle me that I'm sure I can shave off time on are the first corner and the chicane.  I have a really hard time picking the best entry line into turn 1, and tend to oversteer it once I'm in the turn.  It's a deceiving little buggar.

For the first corner, I enter the corner on the left side of the straight, I drop it to 5th gear and turn in hard at the 50 sign.  That takes me through the corner at around 120ish and is nice and repeatable (gonna be a whole different story in traffic obviously).

To all racers on Friday... Do not knock down the 50 sign... REPEAT DO NOT KNOCK DOWN THE 50 SIGN!

LMFAO ... now we all know your only weakness!

for the chicane, it can be taken legit at full throttle ... i start wide and make a sharp turn fro the first right hander, but straightening out almost immediately and then just controlling my urge to slam the wheel back to the left, trying to gently drift it back left for the straight, just kissing the right side exit kerbing. sorry, i don't have a consistent turning marker figured out yet.

I think I've figured out the two turns.  Turn 1 just took some practice and finesse.  I run the chicane by feel.  Out of 50 laps, I only had 2 times when I came too far to the right and spun out sideways.  If you start to spin, get hard on the brakes, because there is a nasty area on the left that narrows rapidly which I know I slid into once, and it instantly took out my front wheels... game over.

After 50 laps, I was consistantly getting in the mid 52's.  Best lap being 52.27.

A ways after turn 1, there is an area where you turn right and start going up hill.  Are you guys dropping into 5th for the hill to keep your revs up or do you keep it solid in 6th gear?

I'm using auto @ full throttle it does kick down a gear.

If ChITty's really getting 51's then i guess i need to start practicing shifting, i cannot get out of the 52's...not even with draft.

I switched to a manual transmission.  There are some areas where I was clearly losing time with automatic.

51 was with cutting the chicane, maybe what I'm doing is "legal", but I HIGHLY doubt it.

I'm going to have to practice taking the chicane at full speed, because I'm definitely not there yet "legally"!

To Indent:   ssssssssssssssssssssssh with the manual talk man!  That was my only hope of being competitive!!!!!

Re: the hill and shifting down, in the draft its not going to matter, you'll be carrying enough speed to be well into 6th gear's power range.

Regarding legality of aggressive lines through the final chicane (or any corner really), we're using Charlie Whiting's guidelines from Formula 1 qualifying at Magny-Cours this year. Just don't take all four wheels past the kerbing. Cutting with two wheels is allowable, just not four.

This is described in the season's rules, I attempted to state it unambiguously, hopefully people will understand what I'm talking about.
