Detroit Grand Prix - Lacetti
«
on:
September 12, 2008, 03:22:49 PM »
I posted a video of my best lap time on Detroit. I don't know how good it is, but I'm assuming fair. It's 1:34:39.
I do have some concern about the legalities of my lap:
Quote from: "buz"
- Racing lines must conform to the course of the track as viewed from above. The boundaries of the track can be identified as:
-- the edge of the curbing furthest from the track centerline.
-- the white line at the edge of the black-top, if no curbing present.
-- the concrete & tire walls on street circuits.
Irrespective of altitude, cars may not have all four wheels beyond the horizontal limits of the track
Detroit...in a Lacetti...some of those corners seem like they were meant to be cut *shrug*. There is one in particular at 0:43-0:48 (in the video below) that I'm not sure if anyone
doesn't
cut.
The combo of the Detroit track and the Lacetti car do seem to favor a style outside of the rules quoted above...despite whatever loss of realism (in terms of RL racing) occurs.
Are we going to try to adhere to the rules on
all
corners of this race?
I've slow-mo'd all the corners that are questionable in my best lap.

In that case, I am showing off my best lap time, rather than requesting clarifcation on rules.

I think he's saying he prefers manual gear selection.
I am pretty surprised to see such a difference in favor of auto.
In other games auto is usually a disadvantage...which is an encouragement to try manual.
But this is apparently made by someone with a totally different mindset.

I think the auto is better than a manual on tracks that require a lot of shifts per lap, like this one. It definitely lets me focus on the best entry and exit of the corner without worrying about the gear. That's probably the main reason why I instantly cut a second off of my best time using the auto for the first time.
Now that I have a wheel I think I'll be using auto from here on out. Manual was definitely helpful with the gamepad since I could pick the best gear per corner and then scoot through the corner on the edge. But now that I have the extra turning radius with the wheel, having a set speed that I'm entering the corner with doesn't help as much since I can scrub the additional speed in the middle of the corner if necessary.

true, but for stuff that's already on youtube, it's quicker than reuploading everything.
