Me too...

Besides the possible "speed to market ( no separate team to work on the PC multi player code )"   What are they really thinking?

Control over content, what else. With the ability to no longer make mods and maps, you will have to wait until they release new maps and then pay for them.

As anyone else noticed that the PC version cost $10 more than the console version?

With no dedicated server option there is no real reason for us to switch over to this game. I was planning on coming back to the FPS side with this game coming out Sad

BTW, how do you think the folks that pre sold MW2 dedicated servers feel about this? Ouch

I wonder if they are trying to mimic something that Gaspowered games did...

For example the RTS game Supreme Commander handles up to ~6 players ( that would suck for MW2 ) but that is all the game can support.

People have to log into GPGnet to play multi-player and setup a game.  You can apparently tweak the game as well as password it etc ... as required.  It is using your internet connection for hosting of the game though.

GPGnet
http://replay.gaspowered.com/clientContent/basicWelcome_retail.aspx

I guess this works for the RTS crowd where there is no more then 6 players at a time in a "server".  There is also apparently a ton of user made maps available to download and utilize through GPGnet.  So no limit on what can be "hosted" as a server.  There were pay for maps released as well, that the fan base would have purchased.

It does come down to server hosting ....   as you mentioned, the dedicated server providers must be furious at them.

Something to think of though....    You can purchase a Left 4 Dead dedicated server.  They are all "listen" servers I think.   There has to be a way around this.  Besides they release correct code.

Just some random thoughts while in a meeting...   But we can be very sure of one thing.   It all comes down to money.

They would not "just" do something for the community....  ( always a reason behind it )
or
This will be great for the community...  (<--- how do they know )
or
Look at all the work we are doing for the community...  ( <-- lol  )

Bottom line....  It has to look good on someones budget.  It has to show cost cutting savings or profit gain potential.

EBGames shows the standard version on PC, 360, PS3 all at the same price ..... currently ....   $59.99

I assume it would work like it does on the console. Whoever starts the the game hosts until they leave and then the next person with the highest bandwidth would take over.

I think this is the only way they could get away with not allowing modders free reign like they have had in the past to make free maps and mods. IW sees that as ways they could have charged for extra content.

Here is a good article http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/16015/1/
