interesting. Where can I find a image comparison between pod mounted and outboard mounted mirrors?

i would think the ones mounted way on the outside are useless

I would think that the mirrors mounted more to the outside, change the angle and make it alittle easier to see around the wing.

I must be missing something, because I don't get it. Is the problem, that the mirror is to far away from the driver?

Well most of them aren't on the front of the sidepods anymore, but on their own little posts.  My understanding is that they vibrate on those posts and therefore are of little use.
