Hey guys, I know in the past Team RIP has gone to a couple of LAN Parties.
Wasnt sure if you made it out to any in 2007. But I was curious if you/we now Wink had any plans to go to any this year?

I know that you guys had a bad experience at Nor'Easter, but its still one of the biggest LANs in the NorthEast. Here is my review of the Nor'Easter LAN from 2007 that I posted on my LAN party group's website.

Quote
Quick Recap from what I can remember.

Saturday - Dawg & I drive up that morning. Flapjack & his buddy Trouble were going to ride with us too, but Flapjack forgot to tell us they were going up on there own. Got a bit lost on the way. But found it. Checkin was alright. Lines were still pretty long when Dawg & I got there about 30-45 mins after it started. But they did have over 400 people there.

BF2 tournament was first. Flapjack & I were on Team Blindside. We played the best team there the first round and lost. But we did take a round and were the only team to do so. Dawg played with NGA and took 2nd and won a mouse pad. The tournament wasnt run well at all. Very little organization. No brackets. The person running it used the same piece of paper and scribbled teams down and circled some.. and well it was a mess. Some teams got to play double elimination, others only single. They also took about 12 hrs to complete the tournament that only had 14 teams. So needless to say it wasnt run very smoothly.

CSS, well it was Dawg, Flapjack, Trouble, myself & a buddy from EOW. We got rolled. Wasnt even pretty. I think we need to practice more as a team and do some scrims as a team. There were several CAL players and CAL teams there though.

After the tournaments they did a random UT2004 tournament. Flapjack & myself got on the team with the best player there. We let him do all the work and got split a case of RedBull for winning

Sunday - They did the last of their giveaways... Dawg, Flapjack & myself all got hosed and didnt win any raffle prizes. But Trouble won himself a CPU cooler I think it was. One of the guys from NGA won a Intel Extreme Core processor. Jerk lol. They did give away a ton of crap including a total of 10 of those CPUs. Along with about 10 cases, a dozen cpu coolers and alot of other cool crap.

In between the raffle prizes they did the UT2004 1v1 tournament. 1st round was a free for all deathmatch with the top 4 per server going on in the tournament. I joined the server with the best player.. so needless to say I didnt get the top 4. I finished 5th out of about 20 people. Dawg was on the other server and finished 2nd. There was some confussion on when the next round was to start. So Dawg got a late start. The top 4 out of 8 would advace. But due to his late start, Dawg finished 5th. And missed his shot of winning 1 of 3 video cards.

All in all the lan was alot of fun. They had some major sponsors including Intel. The facility easily was able to hold all 400+ gamers & the booths for sponsors. The checking wasn't too bad. There was never any power issues, as they had rented a CAT generator. My biggest complaints were regarding the tournaments. But all in all it was a very good LAN and I will probably go again next year.

Here is the info on Nor'Easter in 2008

http://noreaster.lpane.net/

Quote

On behalf of the LPANE staff, I am happy to announce that we have secured the date for our Fourth Annual Nor’Easter LAN Party. The Nor’Easter 2008 official dates are Saturday June 28th thru Sunday June 29th at the Shriner's Facility in Wilmington, MA.

Early Bird registration ($30-PrePay) will open on February 1st thru February 29th (You get one extra day because it’s a leap year!). Standard PrePay ($40) will remain from March 1st up to June 20th. Once PrePay expires, the Door Price ($50) will go into effect. True, this is a bit late for an actual Nor’Easter to occur, but we can always turn up the AC to make it feel like April…

This is sure to be the first of many posts for information on this upcoming LAN, so stay tuned and make sure to check out the forums!

Any interest in going? Would be cool hanging out with all of you guys again. Havent gotten the chance to do that since the GXL LAN a few years back.

I actually enjoyed the Nor'Easter.... I was able to see everyone and that's what really counted.   So yup I'd be into going.

I posted this before I had access to the private forums, didnt realize you went to GXL last year.
Are they planning anything again this year?

Also Ripper, if you are interested, there is a LAN that is held at SUNY IT in Utica. Its not too bad, about 80 people or so. Nothing worth flying in for, but its only about an hr or so from Syracuse. I have gone to their past 2 LANS. They arent too bad. I will post the link when I get home.

Just wondering if anyone is planning on going?

I will be registering in the next week or so, that way I can get in for $30.
I am pretty sure that my younger bro from Utica, NY will be going as well. Plus I am sure that a few of my friends from the Albany area will be going too.

Would be cool to see some of you again & to meet a few of you who I havent meet at the GXL lan a few years back.

I do see that GXL is planning something in April, but thats kind of short notice. Also dont have much other info out there. So I am not sure if I will be going down to that one. But who knows.

They did, but it looks like the site is down. It was just up last week or 2. But when I go to it now, its gone. Maybe they didnt pay their bill?

The site, if it ever comes back up is:
http://www.thedieclan.com/stgc/

They host the event at their college, SUNY IT, in the gym. They typically get about 75 gamers or so. Not the biggest LAN, but still decent size.

Not sure how far you are from Albany, but I am part of a group that hosts LAN Parties in Albany. Our last LAN party in Dec, had about 40 gamers. We hope to get around 50 this time. Our next one is scheduled for Saturday April 5th. We are doing a COD4 tournament, Team Fortress 2 tournament & a Halo 3 Tournament. Still trying to get sponsors & what not. But if you are interested here;s the site
