need some help...im trying to setup a new satelitte network(thats all we can get at work) heres the dilemma the won;t do commerical businesses, but we have a residential house on the property....we could have them install it there and i want to get the signal to the business which is roughly... 200 ft away...we can't run a cat 5 cable outside without digging trenches etc...is there an amplifier i can get and setup midway?  what do you guys recommend any ideas? I know very little about amplifiers etc...

Let me understand, you have satellite internet and you want to amplify the signal to go 200+ ft but cant place a hard-line in the ground? Why not bridge the satellite internet connection to a wireless router? Then its wireless internet for everyone. You can then buy access points to boost the wireless signal over that long distance. But remember satellite internet is slow compared to cable broadband, and amplifying the signal for that distance will also make it slightly slower. It's doable but will be somewhat slow.

Agree with BonusPoints - a wifi bridge between two AP-like devices probably.

If they had an RG6 run for TV between the two sites you could use MoCA devices like the Moto NIM100 to bridge coax-to-ethernet. But I guess that's not likely by the sound of it.

Ok here is what you need.

Get a wireless router that supports "tomato" open firmware. I use a linksys wrtg.

One of the features in "tomato" is the ability to boost signal range. Currently my wireless network reaches over 8 houses down from mine. I did a test and was able to stream Netflix on my iPad and didn't drop network connection until about 10 houses down from mine. It automatically connected from 8 houses.

After you you do that, you can also do the beer can mod to your router. Google it.
